Smile Newbie with no connection bars

I've been at LineWire for about a week. I am REALLY
having a ball downloading old songs. Today my
"connection bars" went to zero and I got a "disconnected"
message box. I was watching the monitor and there were
three sites downloading from me. The monitor icon on my task
bar looked normal (flashing back and forth) and the downloading was going on.

What should I have done?? Was I disconnected or not?

What I did was wait until the monitor showed no downloads
and turned LimeWire off and back on. The "turbo charged
connection" and 5 bars came back.

Many Many Thanks!!

You can't hide behind that Newbie tag for ever you know. You're one of the old timers now!

A few things might have happened. but I think it is possible you were trying, unsuccessfully, to connect as an ultrapeer. I had this happen to me once and my connection was completely messed up . I dissabled ultrapeer capabilities in options>speed, restarted and all was fine.

After you disconnect either intentionally or unintentionally, you remain connected to the hosts you were connected to, but not to the whole network. This is why the uploads continued.

By restarting it seems you did just the right thing. If it happens again, open the connections tab in View > Show Hide>connections and see if you have a lot of lines saying "connecting". If so Dissable ultrapeer capabilitie.

I hope this helps. Best Wishes

Wellllll, it seems to me that an "oldtimer" (67) should
be able to qualify as a newbie for at least 10 days.
After all I had NEVER played one song on my PC until
last week. And I only owned one music cd (it was a gift
from my brother).
Thanks for the answer!!
Best Wishes!!

Update on loss of connection:
Sometimes a file, then connect will solve the problem
sometimes not.
Sometimes I get the message with a turbo connection,
sometimes no bars.
I turned LimeWire off and on which seemed to
solve this "flavor".

I REALLY LOVE LimeWire Though!!!!!
