Well I'm glad that a few of you are able to use LimeWire again.

I can't wait till I'm able to use it again.

NO SOLUTION HERE, BUT.......I'm from Elizabeth, NJ and I'm experiencing this BS also. WTF!!! I noticed that my grokster quit on me about a week ago and it never just stayed in the "connecting" state. I download limewire and my setup is clean and still that stupid firewall issue is up. I'm gonna give them a call now.

ELoXL February 13th, 2006 06:33 AM

For those in the NJ/NY areas look at the last Fire and Lime post to see what the optimum reps had to say to be about the firewall issues. Nothing too big, but just some insight. I urge everyone to give Opt. Online a call though and just keep throwing this in their face. They're not telling us something.

Well for me this is also happening I live in NJ also yesterday I reformated my computer thinking it was something wrong with the pc and my ip gets renewed and everything I download Limewire again install it etc.. and it works pretty good I come on today and it doesnt work optimum online is doing something and I am guessing I will have to call because they are ethier blocking something like it was said before or something weird is happening because how can this happen to mostly optimum online users only..

Probably best as ELoXL suggested is to complain incessantly, but politely. Being impolite doesn't often get you too far. Diplomacy & frequency & not letting them shake you off the phone until they find a solution & guarantee it. ;)

BTW I think Stief left a link or direct explanation of what he did to achieve a response in a similar situation. See if you can find one of his posts under the topic of optimum.

Here's a link for a very recent discussion with OOL: Called Optimum (click on link)

And here's just 3 of the other 65+ threads regarding Optimum Online:
1. ATTENTION: Everyone...This Just IN,

2. LW says i have firewall on,

3. Error Message: machine doesn't appear to have active connection/ firewall blocking LW.

Search the forums for optimum & you'll find the other 60+ threads mostly between last December & now.

This is all I could pull from the Optimum Online website. It talks about P2P programs and has a focus on the cons of file sharing. This may be some proof that they're hiding something from us. The second link talks about a email tha twas sent out back in 2002 to Optimum customers in regards to bandwidth issues:

1. http://search.optonline.net/_1_2P8LT...and%2BLimewire

2. http://www.geeknewscentral.com/archives/000537.html

I guess it can be some good "gee wiz" info.

So all these problems are in NY/NJ? Thats funny, cause its spread here to west virginia. (god knows why) Everyone I know uses limewire, and on monday, feb 13, it all stopped working, and we get the same error message you guys do. I think other ISPs are catching on to the whole P2p blocking rage.

MichalMystic February 15th, 2006 03:35 PM

Isnt there...

Isnt there something that Limwire itself can do about this problem? Changing the ports it uses as i imagine this how isp are blocking or filtering out ps2 programs?
