Connection comes and goes

OK, running LimeWire 9.9.33, Java 1.5.0_02

I open LimeWire, it connects, slowly. Connection flickers between poor, fair, and good. Occasionally up to excellent. But then disconnects. Again, reattempts connection, works 50% of the time, usually connects second time. Then, again, disconnects within a minute.

1) Windows XP Home SP1
2) Norton Internet Security, Firewall disabled. XP firewall, disabled.
3) 256k RAM
4) Only about 2.5Gb Hard Disk space left (of 20Gb)
5) Connection is corded, through an ADSL Modem, Router, and Firewall (TRENDnet). Firewall disabled.
6) Home connection (North East England)
7) ISP, Talktalk broadband.
8) No other P2P connections, no other computers connected
9) Did this test: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ it said, "your test worked".
10) Did this test: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
490 download speed, 195 Upload

Anyone?

Whart is your modem/router make and model# it may have a firewall in it.

Connection is corded, through a TRENDnet ADSL Modem/Router/Firewall. Firewall is disabled.

Also, (back to limewire screen) the icon at the bottom left indicating firewall, sometimes is on, sometimes is off. Problem still occurs when firewall sign is off.

Unfortunatley until you provide us with the make and model we can not help you. Some have NAT firewalls in them. The link below is your modem web site.

You router has a firewall in it and you will probably have to port forward it. You may be able to use UPnP but I do not know if your router supports it. The link below should help you port forward your router.

Same probs here angloshot

Hi have you managed to sort the problem, I'm also on talktalk and wondering if it is talktalk blocking P2P, I have port forwarding setup on my router but still having exactly the same problems as you?

angloshot January 7th, 2006 04:21 PM

mine righted itself for a few days. now back to its old tricks. it doesn't claim to be blocked by a firewall anymore, and it usually says turbo-charged connection. but the downloads just aren't going over 5k/s

TalkTalk is filtering!!! See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...412#post184412

I'll repeat one of the links of evidence here: * Official report on UK isp's that throttle speeds (TalkTalk included): ISP's that cap heavy bandwidth users & p2p (click on link) It seems they are a subsidiary of Tiscali.)

I've just added them to this list: ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire

Read a couple of those threads/review and I'm f*****g fuming. Is there anything we can do, or do we just have to sit here and take it?
