Limewire fails to initialize

Hello....I have recently upgraded my antivirus/firewall software from Compurter Associates. I also upgraded Limeware to the newest version but the BASIC package. Now when I double-click on the icon, I get the following error message and the program shuts down.

LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire.

I followed every step that I was able to find within LimeWire's steps but still unable to get program to start.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Kevin

That is the same problems I am having as well! It has always worked before now I get that message. I have turned off all firewalls, the XP firewall and the notron firewall. I don't even know what a loopback is! Can anyone shine light on this problem? Thanks.

If you have both XP & Norton firewalls then disable XP FW but configure Norton to allow LW full access; * Configuring Norton Internet Security

r8rfan1010 should see this: Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Can you both tell us what are your Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I suspect this is the major issue here. Your connection devices have NAT firewalls & either need UPnP activated or else, need to be manually port forwarded. We need to know what you're using before we can advise more about it.

Also consider doing steps #1 & 2 only here: Fixes for Limewire

Well like I stated both firewalls are off so I don't see how turning on norton and keeping xp off will help. Any how my routers are linksys and quest.

Having Norton FW activated will help protect you. You shouldn't run without a firewall.

Make sure your Linksys device has UPnP activated. See example here as yours should be similar: Linksys UPnP setting (click on link)

Then go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & make sure UPnP is checked. Once all that's done you should be fine.

At least, I'm guessing your quest device is a simple modem right? If it's a router then please supply model number.

Where is the Norton firewall located? My computer came with a short subscription but I when I open Norton all I see is the auto protect options thing.

OnlyAhomo, please. I only came as a last resort to figure out the problem I had with my Limewire. I don't want to wind up like the other ***** who come here everyday like yourself just to read posts. I wanted my answer so I made as many posts as needed to figure out what to do. In the end it was pointless these message boards aren't really a help so I'm done. Have fun responding because I wont come back

System details - help us to help you (click on blue link). Try removing the firewall rule you have for LW in your software firewall, then re-adding it. Firewalls such as Norton require this to be done.
