Direct Connect - cant Connect!

Hi All,

I've had limewire for ages now and am trying to use Direct Connect.
I'm sharing files, have set up router and firewall to allow port 6346 (I'm pretty sure I've done it OK) but when users try to direct connect to me, they see no files at all, or any error messages.

What's going wrong?

Direct Connecitng is not always easy. If either of you are firewalled then it just won't happen. Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If False then you're still firewalled which means you only have partial access. You both also need available upload & downld slots & bandwidth.

See How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect

Magnet links is another method. Send a friend a link & once they dtart downlding or vice-versa, they can browse you. You can also browse them via the upload window.

Is there a way all of my files I'm sharing can be displayed using the magnet, instead of just one?

lol well you could take a snapshot of your shares & provide it as a jpg magnet link. But other than that, the answer is no. :D

BTW sometimes with D.C. you need to be persistent as some problems might be traffic between you & them or yours or/& their upld/downld traffic. So whilst it might not work one moment, 10 or 30 mins / some hrs later it might! ;)

Cheers for the info.
For direct connect, is it for sure a Firewall problem? if So i'll look into it a bit more.

No guarantees but that's the 1st place to look. Both for yourself & the other party.

I guess it's in some ways similar to browsing, one moment you can direct connect to them, a few mins later you can't or vice versa. Though if you can once, then generally you can continue to do unless their bandwidth & open slots is obviously filled up. I've been able to browse people I one moment could DC to & some time later couldn't. But browsing is similar in the respect, one moment you can browse them & perhaps the next you can't or your browse finds less files in the browse. So all these issues are affected by both each user's upld & downld capabilities at that particular moment as well as traffic & peer connections in-between.

I've just got the most recent version of Limewire and I've disabled my McAffe firewal and Windows reports no firewall is turned on.
I'm thinking it's my router (Belkin) which could be the problem although i've set it to expose my computers ports and the Limewire one.
Limewire continues to say I'm behind a firwall :S

Do the Bug Report for incoming as suggested earlier. If it's "True" then the problem is unlikely to be you, or at least with your set up. You do need to have available bandwidth, etc. I would compare direct connecting a little like browsing someone. One moment you can't, 30 mins later you can.

Ask your friends for more details. Do they actually connect with you but find no files. Or is their Direct Connect totally unsuccessful. When you browse someone, there's occasions when no files show up. But some time later another browse to the same source shows 100's of files. Both my direct connecting & browsing 'can' show different no's of files when I've done it some time later.

Are you able to direct connect with your friends? If not, then I suspect the problem might be with them.

Also, when you select direct connect search type, is your ip listed above the DC ip search box?

Lord of the Rings December 29th, 2005 10:27 AM

Send me a pm & give me your ip & I'll see if I can direct connect with you. Or better still, send me a magnet link. A magnet link will allow me to browse, direct connect, etc. so it's a very good way of testing to see your situation. You can pm me by pressing the pm button below my posts.

Hi,

Gives us a shout when you're online :)

Rob_Online December 29th, 2005 01:58 PM

Strange thing now.
Limewire says it's not behind a firewall but the text on Direct Connect does

Rob_Online December 31st, 2005 07:44 AM

OK, I'm sure it's the router, anyone got any ideas? (Belkin Wireless)

Lord of the Rings December 31st, 2005 07:49 AM

I didn't see your previous reply. Leave LW open for a time & see if the same is still true. Sometimes after opening LW it will signify a firewall but once it settles it disappears.

If you're online in about an hour I will try to direct connect with you. I'm being nagged to finish watching a dvd movie so I better ... lol :D

Send us your ip address or better still as I suggested, send us a magnet link so I can try connecting to you either way. Send it to me via a pm (personal message), & click on the pm button below my post.

When you choose Direct Connect search ... what happens? Do you see your ip address above the search box?
