Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Direct Connection Firewalled

Limewire 4.10.3
Windows XP Home
Norton Antivirus 2005

I have tried every post to correct the inability to make a direct connection. Limewire keeps telling me I'm behind a firewall or router. ( I have a direct Cable connection and I have tried every thing I can read or think about. I've disabled everything, changed settings in network as other posts instructed but still limewire says I am behind a firewall.
My connection works fine and is very stable. I can download from multiple peers and can search and receive many files.

I noticed this seems to be a big problem for ther people who cannot seem to get this firewall for direct connect to go away so wwe can connect directly to a friend.
I like Limewire and would consider the Pro version but Not if the direct connect can't be used or configured easily or with a set of instructions on the site from limewire on how to solve this.

I'm baffled and would appreciate anyones insight who has battled and solved this issue or is it just a fact of life that direct connect sucks and never really works?

Thanks

Sometimes when you 1st open LW it will display that message.

After LW's been open at least 15+ mins, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? If false then we need to determine why.

You say you're using Norton AV, does that include Norton firewall? If yes, then disable xp's firewall & configure norton's instead. Norton & XP's firewalls will clash with each other.

You say a direct cable connection. Is there no modem or other connection device? If yes, what's the brand & model?

If your result to the bug test is true, then the fault is probably the host you're trying to direct connect to. It helps if you have free upload & downld bandwidth & slots & also having Chat enabled. BTW Direct Connect is not the most reliable tool. I can sometimes connect to someone one moment & 30 mins later can't or vice versa. I've noticed also that sometimes on a 2nd direct connect to the same host, their file results connection quality has changed from 4 stars to less (but this tends to happen with particular hosts which suggests their bandwidth is too busy.) But I guess that is related to points made above & also traffic in-between.

1) My Limewire 4.10.3 never releases the firewall logo and when I click on irect connect it allways states I am behind a routr or firewall
2)I've left Limewire going for hours/days and it still does not release the firewall (apparently If direct connection is available I should see my IP address when I select Direct connect) I am computer literate so I know whayt my IP address is and therefore this is not my only indication.
3)Norton Av 2005 version I use does not include a firewal. (I have even tried disaling it, rebooting, etc. just incase
4) I connect thru a RCA broadband part number DCM 425 mine says false but i cannot figure out why.

thanks for anymore assistance

Here is the manual for your modem. http://www.timewarnercable.com/Media.../RCAdcm425.pdf

Are you connected through the USB port? If yes, plug ethernet ASAP!!! USB cable with connections is totally crap and to be avoided at all costs with P2P.

Can you connect with 56K modem (phone) to see if you are still firewalled? (ie we'll know if the prob is the modem)

Ciao

No, I am connected thru a the ethernet connection. I can download from everyone else just cannot connect directly with friends because of that firewall problem.

I see other people have a lot of the same problems and I have tried all the network settings in control panal by adding Gnutella, port 127.0.0.1 and my specific port to both TCP and UDP.

Still no luck.

Is there any other reliable P2P program to use to share my files with my family who live have way across the country? I'm tired of foloing around with Limewire who don't seem to offer a soloution to this problem, yet still want people to buy the Pro version...Why would anyone if they can't get the direct connection to work around the firewall issue?

There's also magnet links as another technique of sending files to friends. Also browsing them at the same time. BTW did you turn off your XP firewall? Norton & XP firewalls have issues when run together which also means less security. BTW I have no problems direct connecting with others. Only those that are firewalled. I have a list of hosts I like to connect to & know I can. If you're on a network or your family is, then it would be very difficult to direct connect to them if their ip starts with either 192 or 10.

Glad we spent a lovely time together. Perhaps you should go for a totally different network. Gnutella probably won't work for you if you have your attitude to finding the cause of "your" issue. Neither would G2 or those others. Probably what you need is a direct connect program to connect specifically & only with family members to swap pics, music, etc. I have a link to one somewhere.

BTW there's many, many millions of people who use LW. Up to 1 million copies of LW are downlded everyday. A small % have problems. They come here. So what you see with others having issues is really a very small no. considering the massive no. of users. This is the place to find help to problems ... that's why you see posts about problems ... that's what this forum is about. lol

I am sorry if I sounded a little harsh. Frustration was speaking. I should be used to it by now as I have beenplaying with computers since the Comadore 64 and have spend days fixing my own ***** ups.

I personally lke Lime wire and my family member was using e-tomi pro (who shut down). Guess I will have to try altrnate methods for fiends transfering.

I was not aware that Norton and Windows firewall shuld not be run together. I'll have to research that.

If anyone has any other fix ideas or alternate TX programs for direct transfer that are reputable I world appreciate it.

PS I am not behind a router, I run Norton Antivirus 2005, Windows firewall, I also have Spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy and Ad-aware installed. I also have sysyem mechanic 6. ( I know I am extremely cautious about preventing virus's lol). Just trying to protect myself from the little gnomes who enhoy screwing with other peoles internet enjoyment.

Cheers to all and thanks again
