Default Your new PC problem

Nodoubtfreak

It is obvious that you have plenty of power and space on your PC so I will suggest you do the following:

You say that you have followed my advice to Sherri81 already, may I suggest that you follow my advice again but before installing Java and LW you defrag your hard disk.

During installation, make sure that all LW setting are set at "Default".

If you can't do that during installation do it during LW's first run.

Let me know how you've got on.

Don't mean to interrupt, but I've been having simular issues. I my self have a very able pc but birdy has been trying to help and we've not found a solution. I have followed your instructions exactly, but when it is time for me to start up limewire it starts to load the user interface and then just closes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Java's online and offline, when I delete the limewire folders and start it up, the loading part will load and it will flash to the LW program for about 2-3 seconds then closes...my roommates are both complete morons and have LW running fine on their laptops, I even copied all their main files and tried to load what they have onto mine, its a later version, like 4.2 or something like that, but the same problems persisted, I am currently trying to get the recent one, 4.5.10 that I downloaded from limewire.com from...any suggestions?

The latest release of LW is Ver 4.10.5, I suggest you use that instead of a beta version.

I did what you told me to. I uninstalled everything, defraged, and reinstalled everything like you said in your post to Sherri81, and it did the samething, nothing changed.

Nodoubtfreak

Did you get the chance to change all LW's setting to "Default" during installation?

I didn't see an option to do that. It just told me where to install it to. That was it.

Can you let me know the following:

What other programs do you have on your PC?

What are the programs/applets/utilities that autorun (startup) when windows starts up?

I take it that your O/S is Windows XP, please confirm?

Are you running your video resolution at 1024 x 768 or higher, if so what is it?

Has LW always behaved in this way, slowing down your PC to a crawl, or is this something that recently happened?

I am assuming that your PC is fairly new, under a year old, and that most of the programs you have are fairly standard, i.e. word processor, internet browser, games, etc.

However, there is something on your PC that LW does not like and the only problem solver now left is the "process of elimination".

Ok, I have a solution!

Leave Java Alone - Do Not Uninstall!

Now uninstall LimeWire....

Download This Utility... RegSeeker

Do a Windows File Search:

Start - Search
All Files/Folders Link
More Advanced Options
Check the box next to "Search Hidden and System Folders"
Type LimeWire
Click Search

Any and all files you find - delete!

Now install and run that program I mentioned above.

When it is open...click on Find in Registry
Type LimeWire
Now only delete the registry keys that actually have the word "limewire" in them.

You don't neccessarily have to back up before deletion, but you can.

After you have done the two things above, restart your computer.

Re-download and install LimeWire!

If you continue to have problems I have a few more utilities that may help you out.

Good Luck!
