intermittant connection

I've been having a problem with my connection for the last month or so. I've read how to configure my settings and changed things around and I get the same results. I'm running limewire 4.10.5 and I have norton internet security 2005. The issue i'm having lies in the fact that sometimes it will connect and the next time it won't and it will say i'm firewalled. My norton is configured to allow limewire all the time. When it doesn't connect i've even tried to close my norton down and there is still no response. Right now it finally connected but the connection is only about half on the network. Any ideas about this??? I'm also running a dell wireless router.

Hi benp,
Just make sure you're connection's not dropping out because of this:

Do you have Win firewall running with your Norton firewall? The two don't work together. Win will have to go!

Go here & see what the test says:

What model is your Dell router?

the test works fine, my router is a dell 2350 wireless

Hi benp,
Just have a look at this info:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357

Make sure your Norton firewall is configured properly. Read the section in there about UPnP. I can't find anything to tell me your router uses UPnP. But if it does, follow the advice for enabling it (within router & LimeWire).

Read through the link & if nothing comes out of it, I'll give you info for port forwarding;)

I've already read that info and my router is UPnP and it is enabled, thanks for the help so far though

Either the UPnP implementation is not good or the issue is something else. If you have XP Service Pack 2, it might be worth seeing this http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools

If you're using XP, then disable XP's firewall. XP & Norton FW's don't run well together.

It might also be worth checking your LW settings. Check how many slots you have for uploading. If there's too many, reduce them. Also allow yourself upload bandwith for browsing, so it might be worth dropping the upload bandwidth slightly. It might also be worth dropping downld bandwidth very slightly.

Another tip, don't use the Resume/Find Sources function on all your incomplete files at one time (if you have many incomplete files.) This can potentially cause problems such as steal all your bandwidth, use up all of LW's & your comp's resources, & possible cause communication problems between your computer & router. Thus, if you use this function, it is probably better to use it on only 1-3 at a time.
