I have already got java 5. tried deleting and installing and deleting preferences and deleting eveything i had under limewire but no joy. Im working on a xpsp 2 and not had problems connecting before.

But today when i loged on my nachine my asdl could not conect and later i found that my connection was missing. I had to create another one which works but can not use LW. LW will not even load all i get is an hour glass for 2 secs then nothing. i have meny LW error reports now which it saves to the LW directory. it mentions java. its along report but starts like thois:

#
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d76c307, pid=3972, tid=3944
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_06-b05 mixed mode, sharing)
# Problematic frame:

This may or may not work but try this:

1. Uninstall Java using add/remove progs control panel. Then install Java 1.5 "Offline" version from here: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

2. See Connection problems? Check here first! & follow these tips before even thinking of opening LW.

If this doesn't work, get back to us.

Salut, my recommandation is to remove them all, restart computer, then reinstall the 1.5 update 6 JRE from http://www.java.com

Ciao

It sounds to me like you originally installed the Java for Java development version, not the normal Java version for average users.

Humm well i know nothing about java and dont even know why we need it but my limewire was working fine with the versions of JAVA i deleted up until yesterday. My system i think came with those JAVA versions and i got it from EVESHAM. so it worked fine with them, i can only guess that somewhere yestarday or last time i use LW the JAVA/LW registry must have got corrupted or missing a file. but no matter im just glad it works.

I hope that by removing the JAVA versions i had before that it does not hinder anything on my system that needed it.

One thing i noticed now is that my LW is really slow. dont know why its bow only downloading at 3-7 kb/s while before it was around 60. i set it to the same setting i had before also.

well i wil try and figure it out and see what i can do. but at least i can download b*ttlestar and *tlantis now lol

thanks again

The problem might just be the sources you've connected or reconnected to. This is generally the reason. However, if it seems a severe issue that doesn't go away, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.)
But make a note of your settings b/c once you do this you'll need to reset them next time you open LW.
