I know this is probably an annoying topic for you all, and I really have tried to read and fix it myself, but I can't.
I have been using Limewire without any complications for a long time and recently it has stopped working. In fact, all my programs that are blocked by firewalls don't work, General's Zero Hour, other online games and also Limewire. The only change I can think of is that my wife unplugged my DSL modem and probably reset some values, but I didn't think I had anything forwarded or setup special anyhow. I used the test page on this forum for port 6346 and it worked. I also went into my Windows firewall and did the TCP UDP addition for Gnutella, adding the listening port and IP. Still nothing. I have turned off my windows firewall completely. Here is my computer:
Windows XP
Norten 2003-no firewall
Actiontec DSL gateway (GT701-WG). I have the firewall turned to basic, which my DSL service tells me is off. So I can't see any firewalls that I might have on. Limewire says "can't connect or firewall" and there is the picture of the brick wall in the left lower corner. My Modem has NAT capabilities, but I didn't see anything about UPnP. It said if I turned off NAT I had to specify a static IP address. Any ideas? I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Games will often require more than one port to be opened. I don't know if your modem is UPnP capable or not (or perhaps its UPnP implementation is not reliable.) So if you're having problems with your games also, manual port forwarding is the way to go. You'll need to find out which ports the games use. They often use more than one port.

LW only uses one port. By default this is port 6346. So I would recommend manual port forwarding for LW.

The steps: 1. Set up a Static ip (most important part & must be done 1st.) 2. Open a port. Instructions for steps 1 & 2 for your model modem is HERE (click on link). 3. Step 3 is also described there. Within LW set both the listening & connection ports to port 6346. Change setting to Manual Port forwarding. Press apply after changes. This setting is found here: LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls.

Okay, so I set up the Static IP, I did some port forwarding and it kind of worked. My Online game (C&C Zero Hour) is working great now, Emule is now working great, I just installed it, and it has a High ID. I have always had a low ID. So it is reading it fine. I forwarded its ports also. Now the strange thing. When I try to connect to Limewire, it doesn't even give me a message. I click connect, it changes to disconnect, but then changes back to connect. It is like it is in some kind of loop. It always boots me out to the connect option. No messages anymore like unable to connect, or firewall, just nothing. I will try to re-load it. Thanks for the help on the other stuff. It seems to be working with all else.
