 I'm afraid I made one more little mistake... after searching for hours (in some movement boxes I didn't unpack for months) I found that book, and found out that in this story the emphatising stuff was called "Ploxis", not "Phlox"... well, it was a few years ago that I read it the last time. Then I remembered that my grandmother told me once about "Phlox" being a special kind of flower - and as you wrote you are a gardener, we now shall finally be able to draw a conclusion.
