Not installing online meaning just that, not downlding the information as you're installing. That is what online installers do. Better to downld the installer to your computer, then install. So the installer is not waiting for extra information/data whilst in the process of installing. BTW you're better off with Java 1.5 for LW 4.10

If you go to the bottom of the page here Fixes for Limewire you'll find a sample image that shows how to delete your LW preferences folder. If you've never used a version earlier than 4.10 then the LW prefs folder will be called limewire & in a hidden folder. If you have used an earlier version of LW, then the prefs folder will be called .limewire

If your computer is very slow, then a reboot before deleting the preferences folder might be needed.

It might also be an idea to purge your incomplete files. Find your incomplete folder; use the computer search function, type in incomplete, then open the incomplete folder & send all items to the recycle bin.

Then try opening LW again.

I heard you originally had Java 1.3 which is no surprise you were having problems with LW. Have you defragmented your hard disk drive (HDD) recently? It is probably a good idea to do this. That will help to speed up your computer.

Also, you better ask your brother how to locate the recycle bin otherwise it is probably very full. Meaning your HDD will probably be getting too full. And that can slow down your computer greatly.

I don't know how to find your Defragger on XP but using windows 2000 you can find it such as the image below shows. It's probably the same for XP.

k i did the defragment...

and i looked for my recycle bin... and there's nuthing on it..... i remember my brother telling me .......he put it so that when i delete something.... it automatically delete ... so i dont have to go to the folder and delete it again ....

and i just got told i should format my computer..by a friend....BUT... last time i did that bc of the hacker and stuff...i lost allll my stuff ( music /pictures ..... and other stuff) .... but will formating it FIX it????? :S

Yes reformating will erase all the files so... do you have a cd burner? or dvd burner? If yes, back up all your important stuff. You must have some type of backup devices, surely!

A reformat might be the way to go. If you want to get your system properly checked out, go to Norbie's site & ask him for advice. As well as being a master of getting rid of viruses from people's systems & getting them back into top shape, he also gives general advice about such things. So register at his site ... tell him I sent you if you like & do as he requests. He'll probably ask you to run a special program & post the results. Explain as much detail to him as possible about your past & present experience; See NorbiesWorld (click on link)

k i'll ask him for help.....but the thing about the lime wire..its not working today now... it goes as far as the " loading user interface" and stops (( freezes )) ...last night after kylie helped me with it... . i had to start limewire twice before it actually worked and brought me to the main page and stuff!!!! but today its doing the same thing as before kylie helped me!!!!

could it be my computer itself...or is it really limewire ? bc i never had this problem before ..just started last night!!!

Lord of the Rings February 25th, 2006 11:50 AM

Ask norbie to at least check your system out & we'll go from there.

Renee18 February 25th, 2006 11:59 AM

k it might take a while..bc i had to register and stuff in order to talk to him or w/e....so it said "activation link that should be visited within the next 24 hours to activate your account"

so ya.. im just gonna say like, how i downloaded AIM ... and after i deleted it my computer got really slow ..and how my limewire isnt working... and that...... i hope that damn hacker didnt get in my computer again .. im gonna be soo pissed!!!! ... i cant beleive ppl actually do that to others... like they have no life or something!! i dont know i find its retarded...but ya this computer is only 5 going on 6 months old  i dont know why its giving me so much trouble!!!!
