Wont Connect!!!!!!! My limewire wont connect and its says i have a firewall but I dont. How do I fix this problem? And what port should I use? I have a Linksys router and tried port forwarding but it still doesnt work. |
same problem I have the same problem. If anyone has any suggestions please post them.:( |
jrolson85 & bclubbabe22, Read through this thread. Don't turn your firewall off, just set it up so that LW can work (but only 1 firewall, never 2 at once), instructions are in here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357 Read all the info about UPnP, if your routers support UPnP then turn it on & wihin LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick use UPnP & apply. Read all the info about modem/routers having internal firewalls, you might need to manually port forward (jrolson85, did you make sure to set up a static IP first?). Do the port test & see what result you get. Start with this & see how you go:D |
Ok I found out all my programs that run on Java dont connect, so I reinstalled Java and they still dont work, so do I have to add something to my firewall list? I added javaw.exe but they still dont connect anything else to add? |
Follow the link birdy gave & follow the instructions to set up your firewall, & also ensure you have UPnP enabled on your router/modem. Else if it doesn't have UPnP ability then probably manual port forwarding is the way to go. High speed modems & routers have their own internal NAT firewalls. BTW Who is your ISP (internet service provider)? |
Do I need my linksys routers firewall on if I have Norton Antivirus? |
Simply enable UPnP on your Linksys & that should be fine. Yes you should keep the NAT firewall on for your own protection. Otherwise there's people/organisations who could access your computer which Norton could not prevent. There's instructions for enabling UPnP for Linksys in the link I gave above. |
Fixed my problem, Followed these steps and it works! Thanks guys! The default firmware for Linksys (and all replacement firmwares except for one) have a severe problem where they track old connections for FIVE days, which causes the router to hang when using P2P apps, or any software that generates a lot of connections. DHT only aggravates the situation because of the number of connections it generates. Linksys has yet to address this issue, but there is a fix. If you use alternative firmware, you can put in a start-up script to fix this problem. Goto http://www.polarcloud.com/tofu/ and download the latest firmware for your Linksys WRT54G/GL or WRTSL54GS router. Go to the web interface (default password is admin) by typing http://192.168.1.1 into your browser. Click Administration, then Edit Startup. Put the following commands in the box: echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses echo "600 1800 120 60 120 120 10 60 30 120" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeouts Click Save, close the window, then click Save settings. Reboot the router (the Administration page has a Reboot button) and you'll be done. |
Xcellent! I'm very glad to hear you solved your issue. :) I'll definitely make a note of your post. Thank you very much jrolson85!!! :) I'm aware the WRT54G has issues which normally aren't always easily fixed. And upgrading the firmware is one way to improve things. In fact, I'll put a link to your post in the link for router issues. Thank you. ;) |
