Linksys Router wrt54g v.3

I don't know what happens, I'm starting to think that it's a defective router, because the limewire of my friend can't connect to the Internet, I have the same router, I tried to connect using my limewire on my laptop and didn't work neither.
My router is the same, but version v5 and it works perfectly. I already tried everything, port forwarding, static IP and nothing works, it's not the ISP because when I connect my laptop straight to my modem it works too, even in his house, we both live in CA and have Cox Cable. Did anyone have ever experienced this problem. Ah, he said that everything was working fine and suddenly stopped.
Thank you all for your attention!!

Special note for users with Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS routers, there are severe problems with them when running any P2P app (read for fix)

The default firmware for Linksys (and all replacement firmwares except for one) have a severe problem where they track old connections for FIVE days, which causes the router to hang when using P2P apps, or any software that generates a lot of connections. DHT only aggravates the situation because of the number of connections it generates.

Thanks for this info.

I tried to update the firmware and I couldn't it said that the router can't connect to the server, I called Linksys and the told me to enable DMZ, do port fowarding, etc. Nothing worked!! And the worst thing is that my friend's router is not under warrant.
Thank you again!!

Find link no. 1.7 here http://utorrent.com/faq.php But I'm not recommending heavy duty cracking of a device's firmware.

Manual port forwarding is generally the way to go with that model. Unless the newest firmware out has fixed its problems. UPnP for this model in the past has apparently been poor AFAIK. Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) & you'll find links to that model or for manual port forwarding find it at portforward.com
