Very Hard To Connect!!! No Firewall!!! And No Cd-r Unit To Install Upnp, what Can I Do

Please, i need help, cause limewire wont connect, downloads are not so fast. i disabled my firewall, to see if that was the problem and it wasnt, i think its because i have a slow 115 kbps connection, but something tells me its the upnp thing, but my firewall is disabled so that shouldnt be a problem, i dont know whats wrong, i already eliminated .limewire, but things just dont work!!! And the big problem about upnp is that i need windows xp cd to install that function, but my cd-r unit just broked. Help!!!:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Are you sure, I thought you could install it or update it from MS. Maybe I'm wrong. Have you seen this http://www.alloy.com.au/support.asp?TID=229 re: XP UPnP setting up?

Then see the Universal Plug & Play section half-way down this page Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link). To enable UPnP, you need to get to your modem/router's web page. Then check the option for UPnP.

No, im sure that doesnt work, cause that takes me to the same step where i have to insert a cd, and the other thing is that i think the plug and play thing is not important cause i have my firewall disabled, but i dont know, help me:confused:

UPnP has nothing whatsoever to do with your computer's software firewall. It simply handles your modem/router NAT firewall (UPnP allows LW or whatever program to communicate directly with your modem to open whatever ports are necessary for "that" program!) That's if your version of firmware can handle upnp reliably or even your device can handle it. You haven't told us what devices you use so I'll imagine they're from mars. So basically I don't understand mars technology. Unless of course, you wish to enlighten us ... such as the forum rules suggest you should state in your very 1st posting. If you want me to play a guessing game .. fine ... I'm outta here. I've got other things I'd prefer to be doing & good luck with your other responses.

im sorry, i thought u might wanted to be helpfull, if u want to know about my devices u should just ask, the problem i have, if u didnt understood, is that i need a cd-r unit to install the upnp function, and i lost the drivers for that unit, and i cant download them, so, im going to buy a new unit, but meanwhile, i need limewire, so, i was wondering if there is another way to install the upnp function, or if my connection could be handled with something else. If you are an administrator u should be gentle and just ask!!!what do u want to know about my devices????

melitica,
LOTR was just trying to help you. It's very frustrating when people don't describe their problem fully... means that whoever is trying to help has to guess.

All people who post should read the forum rules, they're at the top of every page. They give very clear directions on what information is needed:)

Please... be nice, provide any info that will help. Too much is better than not enough. This way, there's a good chance that your problem can be sorted out;)
