Firewall???? Please help me!!!!! i cant fully connect to the network. Limewire has detected a firewall but i have already deactivated it. Is there a Firewall i dont know about?? please help me!!!! |
i too have all of a sudden and out of the blue, been blocked by a firewall.i keep my lw on at all times and have not tinkered with anything.i went through the instructions in sticky to no avail.there is a conflicting statement when it comes to firewall config;are we to tick ''use upnp'' or ''manual''? both have been mentioned.while deleting an unwanted file, for a moment the firewall disappeared but was still unable to connect.a moment later, the firewall rerurned.id like to in advance thank those who are here to help us less informed.tyvm |
theproudlunatic The "use UPnP" option is used if your router supports UPnP & you have it enabled within the device. The "manual port forward" option is used if you have set up a static IP address & manually forwarded a port. Usually to get around internal firewalls within a modem/router. Hope this clears it up a bit:) |
assafd Your firewall might be within your modem/router. To start with, go to the sticky at the top of the page & read through the first part "...check here first". Rather than running without a firewall, it's better to configure the f/w properly. Also make sure that you're not using 2 firewalls at once. Read through the sticky, especially the bits about modems/routers. If your router supports UPnP, enable it. Within LW as well (tools > options > adv > firewall config). Find out if your modem or router has an internal firewall & then look at the info on port forwarding. Do the port test & see what result you get. |
ty birdy.i use a motorola modem model sb5100(pls dont tell its obsolete, pls dont tell me its obsolete but do tell me i spelled obsolete right).the thing that gets me is i didnt make any changes on lw or my hunk of junk claiming to be a computer.all has remained the same.i went through the sticky motions(mmmm, sexy)many times still to no avail.i tried with upnp, manual.im still in firewall hell.there is one bit of info that might help;im unable to enter 127.0.0.1 - the name i gave this P.O.S. over rides it.sigh |
I'm sorry but I can't find one bit of info on port forwarding your modem or whether it supports UPnP. You might have to try Motorola tech support, unless someone else here has an idea?? As for obsolete, you did spell it right. And if you think that going through the stickies is sexy then you're just a little bit sick & probably belong right here on this forum:D |
Ive looked everywere for a firewall and found one in my Norton antivirus. i disabled this firewall as well but that didnt fix my problem....were else do i look for a firewall? |
You don't have to disable your firewall, just configure it properly. Instructions are in the sticky that I directed you to;) Did you find out whether your router supports UPnP? Did you find out if it has a NAT firewall? What was the result of your port test? Please post your details OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW |
My router does support UPnP, I have win xp, LW with Java, Ihave windows xp firewall and norton firewall, router brand ??(dont know:confused: )isp?, i have broadband connection, i connect from home and im not sharing the connection. this is my first time trying to start LW and it has never worked. how do i check if i have a NAT firewall? |
Turn off your XP firewall, configure your Norton firewall to allow LW access. Instructions are in the sticky. What was the result of your port test? Since you said your router supports UPnP, make sure it's enabled within the router. Then in LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick use UPnP & apply). Do all of this, give LW a while to settle down & hopefully you will connect! *To check whether your router has an internal firewall, look at the manual;) It would help to know the brand & model. |
