Check this http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=55081 ie: your problem will most likely lie in one of those 3 areas.

It's difficult to help without details. Check the link l left & do the tests & check your firewalls & devices, etc.

1. Windows XP Home edition
2. I have turned off XP firewall, but I also have Norton System Works and have no idea about that program, but I did choose Permit LW.
3. 960 meg ram
4. 24.7 gig out of 40 gig
5. Cable
6. No Router: Modem "Arris Touchstone CM450 Cable Modem"
7. Trying to connect from Home
8. LW version 4.2.6 & 4.8.1 Java version 1.5.0
9. Millennium Digital
10. Not sharing connection
11. It says "Page cannot be displayed"
12. Don't see a globe icon

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder

Ok the reason you don't see a firewall icon is the version of LW you have which is getting quite old. LW 4.2.6 was released on 12.14.2004

The fact you can't get the page to display is because port 6346 is blocked. The question is, is this due to your modem, your isp or your firewall. (???)

Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the port no's from 6346 to one somewhere between 49152 - 65535. Such as 64049. Then press apply. Close LW. Then re-open & see if you can connect.

I did the "bug report thing" and it said false, what does that mean???
It means you're firewalled. The problem is either a software firewall, a modem/router with a NAT firewall, or possibly your ISP.

Recheck this link Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

Do you have a backup connection? Such as dial up? If yes, try it out & see if you can connect.

Angry Not sure if LW is worth the hassle

Not Sure LW is worth the hassle...
I have tried everything unless somthing new came along. I triple checked any and all of my firewalls and turned them off, I have contacted my ISP and they don't block any P2P or Gnutella. Also I have tried to connect with my dial-up connection and that didn't work. I re-connected my cable modem, I don't have a router, and now LW will get a poor connection for about 15 seconds and move up to fair just long enough to search for something the search will take for ever with zero results in the end and the connection will shut down.

I deleted ".limewire" and nothing. I even went as far as to un-install and re-install LW and still nothing. Also tried to repair LW, did a virus scan and everything...

I have to be missing something, don't I??? If I pull out any more hair over this program, I will look like Mr. Clean.... Ha Ha Ha

Can anyone think of anything else to try?!?

Okay, I have tried Phex, Bear, and LW. None of them can connect, is it possible that my cable modem is causing this?? I contacted my ISP and they have said that along with not blocking Gnutella networks, they also don't have a firewall in the cable modem... If it helps anyone to help me I am using an "Arris Touchstone CM450 Cable Modem", my ISP is Millennium Digital out of Michigan.
