help limewire not connecting!

i have a windows xp and i downloaded limewire about 5 months ago and it was working fine up until about 1 month ago. i did the delete preferences thing and it worked...but then after i closed limewire and reopened it it went back to one bar  i did the delete the prefs thing again and it didnt work! plus i got the message saying it didnt have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limewire. but i'm sure i have internet connection and i deactivated the windows firewall and all my other antivirus/antispyware programs....just to be sure though, i went and did the open firewall thing from the link and it worked...then it stopped. i DO have a router though...maybe thats the problem? i'm not really computer savvy and i have no idea what to do..and sometimes limewire will connect but thats 1 in maybe 20 chances it will...and even then it stops by the 3rd bar PLEaSE HELP!

What are your details
OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Do this port test & tell us the result
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

Within LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'... is it true or false?

Make sure you're not running 2 firewalls at once. Double check that your firewall's configured properly (better to have 1 running & configured that none running!)

What are your details
OS-Win XP home
LW 4.10.9 Java 1.5.0_03
Windows XP Firewall but not running
Linksys BEFW11S4
SBC yahoo dsl
Connection type-DSL
connecting from home
not sharing connection with other computers
i've been using limewire for several months and it was working fine until now
the port test said "your test worked"

Within LW go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'... is it true or false? FALSE

i have no firewalls running...but i configured one just in case. should i make it active?

birdy April 3rd, 2006 09:21 PM

As long as your firewall's configured properly, I'd turn it on.
Your router supports UPnP. Do you have it enabled? If not, enable it within the router & select it within LW (tools > options > advanced > firewall config. tick 'use UPnP' & apply).

Did anything happen just before you stopped being able to connect? Any changes made by your ISP?

lilaznangel April 4th, 2006 10:50 AM

how to enable upnp within router?

in the last reply you said to enable UPnP within my router...how do i do that? i have it checkmarked in the box within limewire. nothing out of the ordinary happened before lw stopped working..it was really sudden. no changes with ISP...its really weird

Lord of the Rings April 4th, 2006 10:59 AM

Have a look under the UPnP section & Linksys here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) Your model is listed; BEFW11S4.

lilaznangel April 4th, 2006 12:23 PM

upnp ineffective

after i followed the instructions from the link LOTR posted i disconnected then connected limewire and nothing's happened yet..is there anything else i can do?

Lord of the Rings April 4th, 2006 12:25 PM

Reboot your computer. Sometimes it's the best when mucking around with new Di-Link settings, etc.

lilaznangel April 4th, 2006 03:31 PM

didnt work

rebooted my computer...no effect
but something popped up a few minutes after i launched limewire
it was one of those notices
it said something like: limewire cannot connect to the network because of an inactive internet (which i'm sure i dont have!) or a firewall is blocking limewire (which i'm also sure is not the problem!) what do i do?

birdy April 4th, 2006 04:30 PM

Your router has a NAT firewall. This might be what LW is recognising. You might have to port forward. It's no drama, just takes a little time:)

First though, I'd give your ISP a call & just see that they haven't started blocking p2p. It seems strange that this happened out of the blue! Do this first, so that you don't go through the whole p/f thing for nothing!

Here's the p/f info anyway, just in case you need it

Step 1. Set up a static IP address
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Step 2. Port forward
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm

Step 3. In LW, tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Tick 'manual port forward', add the listening port number to the box here. Apply.

lilaznangel April 4th, 2006 05:39 PM

ok i did the port forwarding thing, rebooted my comp, and waited for a couple minutes for limewire to start. and then the firewall message still comes up! i had a problem during the port forwarding thing though. u know how ur supposed to enter the ip address into the address bar? well mine said something like "page could not be displayed" i was using internet explorer and so i just did the default page...maybe thats the problem?

Which one There are 5

lilaznangel April 4th, 2006 09:09 PM

linksys router

i'm not quite sure what u mean, Grandpa (like i said i'm not to computery) but on the think it says Wireless Access Point Router 2.4 GHz 802.11b with 4 port switch. does that answer your question?

Lime_Wired April 4th, 2006 10:07 PM

the same EXACT thing is happening to me!

Lord of the Rings April 4th, 2006 10:28 PM

Oh looks like I got confused between threads earlier. UPnP setting up for your model http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...sBEFW11S4.mspx

If you've done all this, are you aware of any security with your isp? Are you using Yahoo security? If yes, disable it & see if that makes a difference.

lilaznangel April 5th, 2006 10:42 AM

actually, LOTR i was redirected to the UPnP settings for my router anyways so its ok. i've tried everything..i dont use yahoo security and i dont think my ISP has any security settings. i use SBC yahoo global do you know of any security settings for that? well after i did the port forwarding thing my limewire stopped having a wall around the globe at the bottom of the screen. now what it'll do is just keep 1 or 2 bars and then without warning, no disconnect notice saying that a firewall's blocking it or inactive internet connection, just go back to 0 with all bars red. then when i try to manually connect it goes back to 1 bar...then none again but this time the disconnect notice comes up...and there's no wall around the globe though...so that means an inactive internet connection. but thats not possible because i'm obviously able to use the internet! UGH! limewire is driving me crazy!! also, once i go to the example of a bug report it says: Received incoming this session: true....so its not a firewall problem right? i have no clue whats going on here! please help

Grandpa April 5th, 2006 06:50 PM

That sounds like you are being shaped or blocked by your ISP.

lilaznangel April 5th, 2006 10:41 PM

i dont think it's an ISP problem. i forgot to mention earlier, but other P2P programs work. i also have bitcomet and ares and both are working fine. just limewire
oh and just now i restarted limewire for the umpteenth time...and a firewall's up around the globe the notice pops up....inactive internet connection or firewall's blocking it...checked the bug report example...received incoming this session: false!!! limewire is just so frustrating! does anyone have any other recommendations for p2p file sharing programs that are quick downloaders for videos especially? i'm about at the end of my patience

moy January 4th, 2009 05:27 PM

its easy

i have vista and all i do is
open limewire
close it the window(the program is still running)
then sleep the computer
then u just move the mouse it goes on again and limewire will start connecting
it works for me i dont know why please answer back if it works

Lord of the Rings January 4th, 2009 06:17 PM

That's a type of sleep mode. :) LW simply rests an ultrapeer spot because it obviously is not needed if you are not searching. :)

minimehorses February 26th, 2009 10:52 AM

Can someone maybe help me? My lime wire has stopped connecting for some reason. It was fine one day the next nothin. I loaded the new version thinking maybe that was the problem still nada... my fire wall is set to allow limewire I can't seem to figure out why its being so stuborn all of a sudden...

jamieleepav April 25th, 2011 09:55 PM

hello, i have just downloaded a pirate limewire, everything went fine all came up properly finished downloading, the program came up an in the bottom left hand corner it says connecting and has been for about an hour... i resarted the computer deleted and reinstalled another copy still it says connecting... any helpful feedback will be appreicated!!???!!

Lord of the Rings April 25th, 2011 10:07 PM

Uninstall LW, then delete the LW preferences folder, then re-install LPE. :) Deleting LW Preferences folder instructions

BTW it might be a good idea to both reboot both your computer & router just in case something else is bothering the system. ;)
