Go into LimeWire, click on 'help' then choose 'about LimeWire'... that will tell you what versions of LW and Java you're using.

Which company provides your internet service? That's your ISP. It's probably a good idea to call them & find out whether they block or shape bandwidth for peer-to-peer (ie LimeWire). That way, we can rule this out as a cause of your problem. Some satellite providers do limit p2p!

Your modem/router is a device (usually just a flattish box with LEDs) that will plug into your computer & also into your dish/antenna. Try to find the make & model.

Next time you see the error popup, write down exactly what it says or take a screenshot of it.

Since I've seen the Aussi add ".....so where the bloody hell are you" (absolutely awsome ) I assume someone from Down under can take a joke............(if I'm wrong, put ash on my bend neck)........

As Mands said, she isn't very computer sawy........can you imagine her trying to make a screenshot?? (not even I have figured out yet how to do that, though I can handle my old slot machine quite well)..........sitting in front of her monitor and trying to get the pop up message into the lens of her Nikon (in the best of the cases).......or..........trying to get it into the recticule of her M 16......... ....(No offens Mands, please, I know how it is being not sawy with computers, since I've started like you, from ground zero.......I just couldn't resist..........d@mn German humor..... )

Default hello

I'm sure birdy can take a joke, he has been reall helpful, I just think there is no help for me. I wrote down exactly what the pop up said but I think, like I said, I am out of luck. I think it has something to do with the ISP. I have no idea who that is or what?? Anyway, I will just have to suffice with the music I am getting here. UGGGGGG!!!!! Anyway, thanks! Mands

Hi Mands,
The port test ("your test worked") just means that LW's default port isn't being blocked. The bug report result just means that there's a firewall prob.
Next time your husband phones, you could ask him who your ISP is. If you like, you could ask him about your modem/router... he might know the brand & model. Quite often, these devices have their own internal firewall & this can be a problem for LW. If this all sounds a bit confusing, wait til he comes home & make him try to sort this out That is, if you still want to try with LW

Hi foolofthehill,
Of course I can take a joke!! "He" is a she btw I'm a computer dummy but one of the few things I know how to do is a screen capture, I can show you how in 487 easy lessons!! German humour isn't so different from Aussie humour (in Waldshut I saw a huge teddy bear hanging out of someone's upstairs window... with his underwear on his head! Very Aussie-like).

Lesson#1 Windows when you have a screen you want to capture. Press down the PrScn/SysRq button. Then click on Start then All Programs then Accessories then Paint. Then choose Edit then Paste there you have it a screen shot. Make sure you save it as a format that the forum accepts I prefer JPEG/JPG myself.
