Firewall detection still Hi, I have tried everything I have been told to do to get rid of my firewalls but when I get onto limewire to download music it still says it detects a firewall. I don't know all that much about computers but I really have exhausted all of my resources. Can anyone help? I have Norton antivirus and I am on Windows XP. Also, when I was in the States I didn't have this problem with Limewire and firewalls. Thanks, Mands Last edited by Mands; April 6th, 2006 at 03:06 AM. Reason: mispelling |

What are your details? OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW Do this port test & see what result you get http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Within LW, go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. Is it true or false? Have you made sure that you're only running one firewall & that it's configured properly? http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml |

Firewall detection still Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I have done the test and it said it was ok. I have used limewire before, when I lived in the States and didn't have this problem. I have already done everything else you said except for the bug reports thing and when I did that it said false. What does it all mean? Sorry I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks for your help. sorry Yep, sorry about that, um, let me try and answer but bear with me, I am not a computer wiz. I think the connection is cable, sattelite. Like I said I have windows xp, it's my home computer and no one else should be using this able to access this computer from the outside. When I first downloaded LW I did all the stuff they told me to do to let them through the firewalls and a few days after that I kept getting this pop up alert that said some outside source was trying to use the same ip address, or something like that. I haven't seen that pop up again for about 4 days or more. If I didn't give you enough info please let me know and if so when you ask please use the most basic language you can think of, half the time I have no idea what anyone is talking about when they ask me things about computers. I am still learning. Thanks again and I hope I answered all of your questions about my set up. Mands |

ok also, I am on a HP computer and I have no idea about the router, I don't even know what that is. Also I think I have windows firewall but the two Gnutella boxes are checked that allows them through. I have Norton antivirus but I don't think they have a firewall. Ok, I think that is it??? |

firewall a no go Hi again, I just got a pop up from LW and I quote"LW is unable to connect to hosts on the Gnutella network. This is most often due to firewalls or content filtering software blocking access to Gnutella (port 6346). Please review your firewall's options to allow LW to access the Gnutella network or speak to your system administrator or ISP to determine if Gnutella traffic is being filtered." So I just moved here at the end of January and my husband just left the country for four months for his job and I have no idea who the ISP is or anything so I think that is the problem and I am basically out of luck. Thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it. Mands |

As Mands said, she isn't very computer sawy........can you imagine her trying to make a screenshot?? (not even I have figured out yet how to do that, though I can handle my old slot machine quite well)..........sitting in front of her monitor and trying to get the pop up message into the lens of her Nikon (in the best of the cases).......or..........trying to get it into the recticule of her M 16......... ....(No offens Mands, please, I know how it is being not sawy with computers, since I've started like you, from ground zero.......I just couldn't resist..........d@mn German humor..... ) |

hello I'm sure birdy can take a joke, he has been reall helpful, I just think there is no help for me. I wrote down exactly what the pop up said but I think, like I said, I am out of luck. I think it has something to do with the ISP. I have no idea who that is or what?? Anyway, I will just have to suffice with the music I am getting here. UGGGGGG!!!!! Anyway, thanks! Mands |
