Angry please help useless novice
started downloading film when i go to play preview player says its short of codecs,how do i get them,and how do i know which ones i need????

Here's a link to lots of different codecs. If you're using WMP, the XP codec pack is good.

Within that thread is also a link to VLC player. It's very popular & plays almost anything.
