firewalled again!!!!

I just got LW 2 days ago. Was firewalled and searched this forum for hours trying ti figure it out. Used the "delete LW prefs" and it worked great. I left my machine on all night thinking it would give my downloads time to complete. When I woke up this morning LW was very slow barely a connection. I restarted my machine thinking it would help but now Im firewalled again. I tried deleting Lw again but no help. I am downloading my current items but cant search. Please help. My firewall is configured(i Think)

OS: XP
LW ver: 4.10.9
Firewall: norton
ISP: Tiny small town cable (Wabash independant networks(WIN))

P.S. I have eDonkey also (:( sorry) and it wont work either. thats why I got LW. But I got LW to work (temporarily) and the donkey is still dead.

It just tells me that "You are currently connecting to the network"

If you're using windows XP then ensure you have disabled XP's firewall. Then for Norton check this Configuring Norton Internet Security

Ensure your modem/router has UPnP enabled. Check the UPnP section on this page Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)
What brand & model of modem/router do you have?

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

XPs firewall is off and Im pretty sure that Ive got Norton configured correctly. When I use the test link I get "this page cannot be displayed. BTW I dont have a router but I do have a Linksys BEFCMU10 v2 cable modem if that helps any.     I dont know what just happened but I did the delete trick again about 20 min ago and got a firewall again. Its been running minimized since then and I just checked it and There is no firewall and Ive got "a very strong connection". I really wish I knew what just happened so I can do it again If I ever have this Problem again. Any suggestions to keep this problem from happening again?

is it typical for my connection to come and go (i.e. From nothing to very strong back to nothing again)

Try to ensure UPnP is enabled on your Linksys device; Linksys UPnP setting (click on link)
The UPnP if it is enabled on your device might be unreliable. In which case, a firmware upgrade for your model might be recommended.

Scratch! I just googled your model & found these comments about your model modem being reknown for locking up; see the user comments starting from about half way down of this page http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282 Particularly Alan Krueger's feedback.
It might be wise to seek a firmware update for your model!

There are no firmware downloads from linksys for my specific model. Any Ideas?

BTW I am especialy disadvantaged because I am color blind and cant see the connection bars. I have to set my pointer over them to see what my connection is.

Answered you by pm. I might have been wrong about the modem being your issue.

Recheck norton's settings.

If it happens again, you could try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

Make sure your Java is up to date. You should have at least Java 1.5. You can check by going to LW's menu Help>About LW... Will show both LW & Java version. You might even consider Java 1.6 beta which has had very good reports; http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB downld. But that's up to you.

Sometimes the brick wall on the icon can show when you 1st open LW, but although it should disappear immediately, sometimes it may last for up to 15 mins or so for some people. I don't know why this happens. I'd have thought UPnP problems. But probably a reboot might fix it.

I'm wondering, is the JAVA 1.6 usable for LW 4.9.37? Because I've downloaded it after your suggestion in the other thread and when I reinstalled LW (after unistalling all JAVA's and installing 1.6) LW still requested that I download and install the 1.5.0_05 (which I allowed LW to do) Later on I installed 1.5.0_06 and now LW uses this version. Though I still have the 1.5.0_05 installed. Would you reckon to uninstall the 1.5.0_05 to prevent any conflicts?
