My limewire won't connect, and I've tried almost anything. I have Norton Internet Security and the limewire is set to Permit All. I don't have windows firewall, or anything. Any ideas as to what else could be wrong? |
crap, I meant almost everything* |
plus, there's a brick wall in front of the globe but it's always been there and I used to be able to connect. All it has is one bar out of the five. So, yeah, can anyone help? |
It's possible your firewall is blocking your connection to LimeWire I actually had to manually configure my Norton's Personal Firewall to allow it to let LimeWire connect. If you're using a firewall, you might try configuring it manually to allow LimeWire to connect. If you have a different firewall other than Norton's, I am not sure how to confirgure it. To configure Norton's to allow LimeWire: 1. Double-Click the firewall systemtray icon. If it's not there, load Norton's Personal Firewall through your Start menu, then in the Programs list. 2. In the System Status window, click Personal Firewall 3. On the right-hand side of the window is the option to Configure, click it. A new window will emerge, with tabs at the top of it. 4. Click the Program Control tab. 5. In the Manual Program Control section, look for C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe. 6. If it's in the list, skip ahead to No. 10. 7. If it's not in the list, click the Add button. 8. Double-click the LimeWire folder. 9. Double-click LimeWire.exe. 10. Select LimeWire in the list. 11. Click the Modify button at the bottom of the window. 12. Select Permit from the "What do you want to do?" drop-down list. 13. Click OK. 14. Click OK on the Norton Personal Firewall window. 15. Close any other Norton's Personal Firewal windows. 16. Close and reload LimeWire. You should be able to connect to LimeWire now. |
Norton's Internet Secutity Disable Norton's Internet Security altogether. You can get by with Norton's Personal Firewall. It's less of an annoyance. I found Norton's Internet Security to be more of an annoyance, than help. Just a thought. |
ok, so I tried doing the first thing you said, and it still didn't work. so I tried disabling my internet security but it still wouldn't connect. The weird thing is, it will connect on my brothers account on the same computer, same settings and everything. It just refuses to connect on my account all of a sudden for some reason. |
I am not sure what else you can do. It doesn't make any sense why one account would be able to log in and not the other unless there are special settings on your account that is not allowing outgoing or incoming connections. Ovbiously you can log in to this forum with no troubles, maybe try checking over your configuration in LimeWire to make sure you are allowing the best possible connection for your account. You might also try making a new account to see if it will work then. Other than that I don't know what else you can do. Sorry. |
We will need a little more info please. Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal) 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. * Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml 12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False 13. Do a speed test post the results here. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ |
umm.. well, it's okay and everything. I downloaded frostwire instead and it's just as good. |
They are the same. If you were able to use Frostwire that tells me you did not have your firewall set up properly for LimeWire. :) |
Same Problem??! I've done everything, everything on these threads, port changes, unpn thingys, I even deleted my Norton stuff it was expired ne way but still nothing. Pls help i've waisted too much time on it.. its workd well the last couple of months then all of a sudden it dosnt connect n says firewall is blocking the program. I have the latest version and i am running on windows xp on a sony vaio laptop |
thasickness What are your details? OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW Do this port test & tell us the result http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Within LW, go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. Is it true or false? |
Reply for above Im running on Windows XP, im connected at school i belive a LAN, my limewire has worked for the past couple months but just acted up... i have just the windows firewall now because i deleted norton... i did the bug report and it said false.. i also clicked on the link and it said test worked, and java is 1.5 |
You need to check with your school to see if they've started blocking p2p. That's what it sounds like & a lot of schools do it. You could try changing ports again but talk to the school first, you might be able to come to some arrangement with them. Do other people at school use LW without a problem? If they do, find out what they've done to get LW working:) |
Thanks All my freinds LW all of a sudden dosnt work either, I think it is what your saying that the school is blocking it... thank you very much for your help :) |
Question actually answered Is it me or do people just like to talk about nothing when someone asks a question. Honestly some people must love the sound of their own keyboards tapping. And the award goes to bloodie for actually answering the question, rather than saying "o me o my it works on my computer". If it works on your computer don't waste the poor persons time. In addition to what bloodie said I found that by following the steps he provided up to step 11 worked; however, thereafter it did not. I found that by following the nexts steps I have provided, I got lime wire to work for myself. step 12. left click on computer icon that appears under "program rules" step 13. select modify step 14. click on "communications tab" step 15. select "all" from the drop down box step 16. select ok step 17. open limewire. I know this is a late reply but it may help someone in google that's trying to find the answer to this problem. And I apologise for my annoyance its just that I was trying to find answers to this very problem and I kept getting blogs that were full of non answers. Really ****** me off! |
Hey, I have a Firewall called AVG Free or something like that, anyways, i have the same problem, I only get 1 green bar in the 5, and theres a brick wall infront of the earth, does anyone know how to fix this ****!?!?!?!?!? Im really pissed and frustrated!!!! |
AVG Free is an antivirus program, it doesn't include a firewall:) Which OS are you using? If you use XP (not sure whether Vista's the same), go to Control Panel > Security Centre > click on Firewall & you'll see which firewall is activated. Make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall (more than 1 will cause a conflict) & that the firewall's configured to allow LW. Also check this thread for some fixes for connection problems. If LW Will Not Connect If nothing there helps, post back with your system details. |
Try turning off UPnP I had the same problem connecting, and just set the (advanced) firewall preferences (UPnP, manual port forward, etc.) to "Do nothing (not recommended)." Now my Limewire connects fine every time. I hate settings that say, "Not recommended" without giving specific examples. If it's not recommended for ALL situations, then why is the #@&!%^# option there? Anyway, try that. |

Same thing here under my sis account it will work and it used to work on mine but not anymore |
Limewire won't connect?? Here's how I fix it!! Limewire has been not connecting every couple of months. Very annoying!! I tried all the uninstall of Java and Limewire routines. Nothing worked!! THE problem IS the application data in C:\Documents and Settings\Put User Account Here\Application Data is corrupt. This folder is not overwritten when installing. Don't uninstall, just delete this folder and when Limewire starts it will ask for your settings again. Works every time for me..... |
skier889 is King I've tried every option that has been given, and after countless hours of trying to fix this connection problem, only one post has had the correct answer. Skier889 provided with the exactly correct answer. Like he said go to: C/Documents and Setting/"User (whichever one ur logged in as)"/.limewire(this was the problem folder for me, i just deleted it and re-installed it and worked perfectly fine). For anyone having trouble just use this method and u have a good chance of fixing ur problem :xeri_ok1ani: |
Ok. Is everyone ready for my problem? In the past, Limewire worked perfectly for me. Now, it is completely screwed up for no apparent reason with no end in sight. As of right now, I have to download via Frostwire, then pluck the files from Limewire (which doesn't connect) and then drag them into iTunes. When I try to place things from Frostwire to iTunes, it's an error message. I manually opened the port for Limewire, added and re added it to my exception list, and even tried shutting down every form of security on my computer. PLEASE. Someone help me. Thanks. |
this is a 100% garantee soulution get frostwire just google it its the same as limewire just different skin and it works :yahoo: |

Limewire won't connect. I have McAfee security centre, though my firewall has been disabled. my windows firewall is disabled as well. I am windows XP on a compaq laptop. Limewire use to connect no problem for me but all of a sudden it only has one green bar. There has always been a wall over the little globe at the bottom but this never had been a problem. Please help me fix my limewire. I have read everything that has been posted and none has made sense. What do I do??????? |
Limewire will connect Hello, there is a very easy solution to the problem so many people will run into when there Limewire won't connect. The reason Limewire won't connect is because Limewire wants you to spend money and upgrade your account. What I did was I downloaded another filesharing program, at that point limewire detected the other p2p program on my computer and started connecting again pronto. Just download Imesh or Kazaa, you don't have to use those programs, it's just so Limewire detects them on your computer and starts connecting again. :super: |
Again :confused:WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CONNECTION TO THE NETWORK? SOMETIMES IS VERY GOOD SOMETIMES IS BAD.?????? ADAM:confused: |
It sounds like your ISP may be Throttling or Shaping your Bandwidth. If you get Fully Connected at different times of the day, then this may be whats happening. Who is your ISP ?? See Link below for more on this subject. Bandwidth throttling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
Also can not get connection I have been trying for days now to connect. I had connection days ago but no longer have. My desktop will connect right away but laptop will not. I have tried everything suggested and have even loaded an older version of Limewire but still nothing. No firewall issues seems to only have changed since I did the upgrade to the newest version. I run Vista and my desktop runs XP. I tried to run another P2P but am having the same result...no connection. What are the chances a virus came with the new version??? This is driving me crazy! |
I have a laptop with XP Pro which connects perfectly. The vista business one does not. Its a vista setting or the fact that Limewire does not play well with Vista . I have no firewall. |
coachjlaw Clingpeach adamek all Verizon ISP users .. does that suggest anything? ;) System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) |
Nothing to do with Verizon. As mentioned before i can use my XP Pro Laptop fine. I did go into the user file as mentioned above and deleted it. Now its working fine on Vista. Thanks for the help |
I do not think it has anything to do with Verizon. It runs perfect on my desktop which is on the same home network. Desktop is XP and laptop is Vista. Laptop was running great until I did the upgrade. Did upgrade on desktop with no issues. I have done as suggested from deleting Limewire completely to getting files removed. Laptop has 160gb hard drive 2gb ram Now running Limewire 4.12 thought going back may help Java is 1.6 again went back to see if it would help. Firewall is set to exception for Limewire. I have made no changes to my system. I even did a restore and that did nothing. Can't figure out why it worked on four days ago and now nothing. Any help would be great!!! |
I have found a fix that worked for me Can't Connect? Try Gnutella.net file here - LimeWire Forums Quote:

I just wanted to share my experience. Before I realized Limewire wouldn't connect, I also couldn't establish FTP connection to anything from home (Uverse router). From reading posts and faqs, indications were firewall (software or router). Long story short - I had installed a VPN Client software for work a month or two before. I had exited/shutdown this from system tray during troubleshooting, so didn't suspect it further. Turns out, shutting down from system tray wasn't enough - the software had a security policy that apparently was still active. Once I discovered this, I just had to right-click, "disable security policy", and my connections worked. So lessons learned - 1) you may have a "firewall" coming from somewhere unexpected. And 2) shutting down is not always shutting down. Very frustrating. |
