I can't get rid of this firewall

Ever since i downloaded limewire(4.10), it detected a firewall(brick in front of the earth). I tried everything and I've benn looking for three days in this forum for an answer, but nothing helped me. I use cable. sometimes a little icon comes and says: "your ip adress is conflicting with another system"(something like that). when i download, the spedd is between 0 kb/s:eek: and 4kb/s. Can anybody help me? Plz:(

There's probably 3 issues.
1. Your software firewall(s)
2. Your modem/router may have an internal NAT firewall.
3. Your isp may be affecting issues.

Have a look through this link for some guidance: Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

youssef karam April 18th, 2006 11:20 AM

Thank you for your help, but just how exactly can i know if i have an internal NAT firewall, and how can i configure it?
If my problem is with the isp, how can it be solved?
I disabled all my firewalls: Norton firewall and windows firewall.
Hope someone can help

You'll need to give some details

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Do this port test & tell us the result http://www3.limewire.com:6346

Within LW, go tools > options > bug reports > view example. Scroll down to 'recieved incoming this session'. Is it true or false?

youssef karam April 19th, 2006 12:23 AM

OS:Win xp pro sp2
LW and java version: 4.10.9(LW) , 1.5.0_03(java)
Firewall using: windows firewall , (norton firewall off)
modem/router brand and model:all i know is: cable through WAN miniport(PPPoE(Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet)) and local area connection(Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast E) (I live in lebanon).
ISP:???( how can i know it?)
Connection type: cable (local area connection)
I connect from: home
sharing: only cable is shared
first try with LW: yes
Result of the port:this page cannot be displayed
True or false:false

Something is blocking LW's default port, could be your ISP. That's your internet service provider... who is the company that you pay for your internet service?

Try to download a file from here & see what speed you get

Glad it gave you a laugh:D
Yeah, there are better things to do than mop the floors!!

youssef karam April 19th, 2006 10:24 AM

My ISP is : Realtek Semiconductor Corp. ( I live in Lebanon)
The download is hyper slow( 1 or 2 or even 0 kb/s) :(
Should I contact the provider to know any further explanations on this problem?

youssef karam April 19th, 2006 01:26 PM

One more question: how can I know my internet speed? (If you can, please give me more than one link because -I keep saying it- I live in lebanon.)

youssef karam April 19th, 2006 01:33 PM

plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, nobody is answering me!!!
I really need help!!!!!!

Lord of the Rings April 19th, 2006 01:40 PM

Choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/speedtest/
Do NOT have LW open whilst you do this test.

I've heard of problems of connecting or with speeds in Lebanon before. You're using a dial up connection right? Or at least a very slow speed plan?

You need to be more specific about your modem & or router brand & models. ;)

BTW if the speed test gives you the speed in kbps (kilo bits per second) then you need to divide that figure by 8 to give you KB/s (KiloBytes per second)

youssef karam April 19th, 2006 02:28 PM

I entered the link you gave me but it says "none known. please tell us if you can find one" when I enter lebanon.
No, I'm not using a dial-up connection. I'm using cable, but yes my connection speed is very slow.
Full explanation of my connection: I use LAN or high-speed connection. description: local area connection: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.
When I want to connect, I use another Icon named "cable"(Broadband) and it says that its connecting through WAN miniport PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet)
The computer always says that an ip adress is conflicting with another network on the system.
This is something strange:: it says the speed of the cable is 100.0 Mbps, but the connection is slow and the downloads (not the ones with limewire) are between 11 and 13 kb/s
the cable is not on satellite but wire
the isp is Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Lord of the Rings April 19th, 2006 02:39 PM

Try an experiment, downld a magnet link from here & tell us all the details of what happens, variation in speeds, etc. http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

youssef karam April 20th, 2006 11:10 AM

First of all, it doesn't show the size of the file. The file doesn't download and it says : waiting for stable connections. When i opened LW this time, the download speed was only one bar (but i was connected)
Sometimes when the download finally starts, but the speed is so slow, it's between 1 and 3 kb/s.
Files i download without using limewire have a speed that starts with about
~300 but then go down too quickly to arrive to a speed between 11 and 13or 14 kb/s and it stays stable.

Lord of the Rings April 20th, 2006 11:27 AM

What's the result of this speed test: http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html

katzyin April 20th, 2006 11:31 AM

2170.2Kbps ....................why??
katz x

youssef karam April 21st, 2006 01:34 AM

Every time I click refresh the speed changes
It was first 50kbytes per second(6.1 kb/sec)
then ~80kbytes per second( ~10 kb/sec)
then 92kbytes per second( 11.3 kb/sec).... and it keeps changing (sometimes lower, but most of the higher)

Lord of the Rings April 21st, 2006 01:44 AM

Did you have Limewire open at the time? Best not to for accurate results. I wonder if it's due to inconsistent line between you & the ISP, etc.
Your inconsistent speeds is a part of your normal use of the internet which is odd. I'm thinking this is either an isp or line problem.

BTW the initial figures you gave should be kbits/s not kbytes. The 2nd figure in brackets is KBytes.

youssef karam April 21st, 2006 01:51 AM

Yes lime wire was open at this time.
When i refreshed this time(limewire closed), the speed was 116.7 Kbps (14.3 K bytes/sec)

youssef karam April 21st, 2006 03:23 AM

I don't know how did we arrive here, but all I wanted is to get rid of the firewall

youssef karam April 21st, 2006 04:29 AM

hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?!? Is anybody out there?!?!?!?!?

Lord of the Rings April 21st, 2006 05:28 AM

The firewall is either due to your software firewall, or your connection device or something to do with your ISP. I don't know the answer. Sometimes the firewall icon will show temporarily but will normally go after some time.

youssef karam April 21st, 2006 05:48 AM

Ok, i will try to contact my ISP to know what is the problem, but thanks for your help though :)
