could you please help here
My ISP are unwilling to give me any information as to whether they have started blocking or shaping p2p traffic. Which is Virgin by the way.
When I start Lime wire I also get a secondary security alert from Norton which states that a remote address is attempting access to my computer I don't know if this is blocking my Limewire connection. I also get a wall behind the blue world in the bottom left. but even if I turn off all my security alerts its still there
any ideas on how I can get limewire back

I'm having this same problem, it only has one little green bar lit up and says its connecting. I've left it on overnight and everything, but it doesn't move.

Here's my system info if anyone thinks they could help:
1. Windows XP
2. Norton Firewall; Limewire allowed through
3. 1GB RAM
4. 84GB free space on hard drive
5. Cable connection
6. Linksys WCG200-CC router
7. Connecting from home
8. Limewire v4.10.9
Java v1.5.0_06
9. Comcast ISP (contacted them and they said p2p is ok)
10. Sharing the connection with an old Compaq, 128MB RAM and 13GB free hard drive space
11. Says 'Your test worked'
12. False (this is probably what's wrong... but my only firewall is set up to allow limewire)
13. Download speed: 2290kbps
Upload speed: 351kbps

n.townend,
It's a bit hard to find info on Virgin to see if they use traffic shaping but if NTL have bought the company, it's possible they are shaping
http://www.uk-bug.net/Topic27.html

Download a file from here & see if you get a reasonable speed
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

For your firewall problem, read through the sticky at the top of this section. You'll need to make sure you're only running 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly. You may also have an internal firewall within your modem/router, there's info about this in the sticky. If you need more help, post back with your details

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Cloby,
Make sure the XP firewall is off if you're using the Norton firewall. I'm not sure if your router supports UPnP. If it does, enable it & also check it within LW's options > advanced > firewall config. The router does have an internal firewall, this might be causing probs. Read through the sticky at the top of this section, the first part "... check here first". There's a lot of info about firewalls & routers & also some info about manually port forwarding to get around a device's internal firewall. Just double check that your Norton firewall's configured properly

Hi
thx for your help here. Still not much luck though I have been through sticky at the top of the section without much success.
You may be right I think NTL have taken over Virgin but have not informed us that they are now our ISP. if they are shaping the traffic how can i get around this.
I have tried downloading the files you have said but limewire informs me that it is waiting for a stable connection for each of the files i have tried to download and still only get one green bar lit up.
I have a windows XP HE OS
Java v1.5.0_06
Limewire 4.11 Pro
connection 2.2mps ASDL/DSL
Modem Thomson speedtouch 330 USB PPP
I connect from home
Using Norton internet security 2006 with firewall on and Limewiire enabled
I do not share with any other computer
i have been using Limewire for about 12mths before this occured
ISp is Virgin/NTl???? who knows now. they aint very helpful
I have treid the 6346 test page and it worked.
Recently had bearshare loaded and this worked although i have now unloaded it because i want to get LW working again.
any offers here are most welcome
cheers
Neil

Do you have the XP firewall turned off? It'll conflict with Norton's firewall.
You'll need to have UPnP enabled within your modem & also ticked within LW's options > advanced > firewall config.
If your test worked, means that LW's default port isn't being blocked. I don't know that chenging ports would make any difference. Can't find any info about your modem having an internal firewall & it's not listed on the portforward page, so that shouldn't be causing a problem.

Someone else might have more ideas!
