Default Firewall trouble

I am having a problem where limewire says that it is being blocked by a firewall. I have figured out this is in the router which is a Zyxtel P-334WT. I have seen instructions on how to fix it, and I am supposed to type in 192.168.1.1 into my browser to adjust my routers settings and allow limewire to get through. The problem I am having is that when I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser it comes up with a Gateway Timeout error. I have searched other threads for a solution but nobody else seems to have the problem, please help.

Well, I've sorta same problem. In the instruction for port forwarding it says that we have to print the IP of the router into the browser address, which would lead us then to a login feature where we have to type our user name and password.
When first attempting this I got the time out error as well; so I tried the second DNS IP as I thought that might be the router IP and I came indeed to a log in screen. However, when using the user name and passwort supplied by my ISP to connect to the internet via adsl, nothing happened. I just got always back to the same screen.
So, I'm going to speak to my ISP on how to set up a static IP. As soon as I've figured out I'll let you know........

foolofthehill,
have you tried just using the username as 'admin' & the password as 'password'?
I've set up a static IP & the username & password for my modem were not the same as my username & password for internet use

Sorry if I'm way off base!

I've just tried, following your suggestion...........no joy . I guess only my ISP can tell me what both are.

Default Second DNS IP?

foolofthehill - What do you mean by the second DNS IP? The handbook I have that tells me how to configure my router only gives me one number to type in that should supposedly lead me to a login screen.

The number I am using is shown in the properties as this:

IP Address:xxx.xxx.x.xx
Subnet Mask:xxx.xxx.xxx.x
Default gateway:192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS Server:xx.xx.xx.xx
Alternate DNS Server:xxx.xx.xx.xxx

I am using the number in default gateway, 192.168.1.1, which is also the number given in the users guide for my router.

Reaper54321,
I think you'll either have to contact Zyxel tech support or your ISP. The Zyxel site has a knowledge base but they have no data on a gateway timeout error.
Sorry

foolofthehill

Follow the instructions at the link below. And by the way the default the username is admin, and the password is conexant for model 2-2-8-1 and By default the username is admin, and the password is epicrouter for model n791 . There are only 2 Conexant router listed so you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

If you are running Windows XP follow the instructions at the link below for setting up a static IP.
