firewall issues

i have read several posts but none seem to have the same firewall problem I do. I am using pc-cillin internet security and i cant find anywhere that allows sites. but even if i turn off my firewall, lw still detects a firewall and says i dont have an active internet connection. i can download SOME things but it is usually slow and bounces from 1 kb/s to 0 and it times out. i am using win xp, cable modem (fujitsu w5), my isp is OCN (japan) , lw 4.10, java 1.5.0_06. i would like to configure my firewall so it doesnt interfere, but i also cant figure why lw has temper tantrums even if i start it with my firewall off. anyone have some advice?

Make sure you've turned off the XP firewall or you'll have problems! You'll probably find some info about setting up your firewall here

Have you read through this sticky?
Connection problems? Check here first!
Do the port test & see what result you get. I can't find any good info about your modem but if it supports UPnP, make sure it's enabled within the modem & ticked within LW's options > advanced > firewall config. Some modems & routers have their own internal firewall, this might be what LW's detecting. Have a read through your manual & check out whether your modem has an internal firewall.
