Its impossible to connect or download something

 Hi!!! Well, this thread is probably answered somewhere else, but my connection screws up at this time of the day, so im going to ask my question here. I have limewire pro 4.10, and when i try to connect it never does, and it never downloads the files. It used to work but i dont know why its not working now. This same problem happens with emule and some websites like habbohotel. Im pretty sure its not an isp problem, cause i changed my isp and it still screws up. It has something to do with my computer. I made the ip test you gave me and it didnt work. So please help me!!!!:( :(:(:(

wondering why June 3rd, 2006 09:44 PM

It could be a Java issue as my daughter plays habbohotel and I noticed it uses Java...
What Java are you running at the moment??

melitica June 4th, 2006 11:45 AM

Nop, not java

Well, i use java2se, but im pretty sure limewire has nothing to do with that.. I think its not a java issue. cause like i said, it used to work, both p2p softwares.

melitica June 5th, 2006 04:05 PM

Sorry

Its java 2se runtime enviroment 5.0 Please i need your help

-I have windows firewall only, and its disabled
-I have 512 mb of ram.
-My hard disk space available is 83gb
-My connection type is cable modem
-My modem is Motorola USB Modem, not sure about my router
-im connecting from home
-i have limewire PRO 4.10
-My ISP is called icecelular and they dont block Gnutella
-I have emule installed and i never use it when i try to run limewire, but this one does'nt work either.
-I made the test you gave me and it didnt work.

So, after i placed all this things in a new thread i hope this time i get the help i need.

Sometimes you have to be patient. We're all volunteers here & it takes time to answer so many questions.

You said you made the test. Was it this port test?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346
If that's the test that didn't work, something is blocking LW's default port. Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue earth)?

Have you been through this sticky?
Connection problems? Check here first!
Since emule doesn't work either, I'd be suspicious of your ISP. Do you know anyone who has the same ISP & uses p2p successfully? It would help to know the brand & model numbers of both your modem and router.

Have you tried changing to a higher port? There are instructions & info here
Alternative Ports

I only said it maybe a Java issue what update do you have....
You can also try deleting your preference folder...
Do step 1 first and if that doesn't work do steps 2 and 3 in this thread....
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420
Please let us know how you go after that....;)

It may be your ISP (internet service provider) causing problems. Who is your ISP? Some will shape or block p2p use during peak hours.

wondering why June 5th, 2006 07:01 PM

If it was his ISP why wouldn't he be able to access a site like Habbohotel

Lord of the Rings June 5th, 2006 07:05 PM

If it's a gaming site ... maybe that's why. Yes some ISP's do target gaming users because like p2p, it also can potentially use large amounts of bandwidth. Gaming forums get complaints about isp issues such as bandwidth shaping.

Ahhhh ok cool...

birdy June 5th, 2006 07:08 PM

The other thread is here
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=56912

Their port 6346 is blocked.

Lord of the Rings June 5th, 2006 07:17 PM

A merger is in order then, thanks birdy! ;)
(it didn't take you long to hang out the washing lol :D It'd dry quickly over there I know!)

melitica June 5th, 2006 09:52 PM

Thanks for ur help guys

Thank u guys cause i can tell you are trying to help me. I noticed its not my isp cause i know a couple of friends with the same one and they have emule, shareaza, ares and limewire, and it works for them. So its not my isp. I tried the alternative ports thing and it did'nt work. I read the whole sticky you gave me and i dont have the preferences folder. And the other solutions related to the isp wore useless. Please guys help me!!!! :o :o :o :o :o

birdy June 5th, 2006 10:16 PM

Yes we're trying to help but you're not making it easy!! Please, if you could answer these questions

Do you see the firewall icon?
What are the brand & model numbers of your modem & your router?
Was this the test you referred to http://www3.limewire.com:6346 ?

You'll have a preferences folder.
If it's not here C:/Documents and Settings/your name/Application Data/LimeWire then it will be here C:/Documents and Settings/your name/.limewire
The green location is for newer versions. The App Data folder is hidden, so in order to see it you'll have to show hidden files & folders (within tools > folder options > view).

I'd be interested to see what happens if you have a friend with a laptop, they brought their computer to your house & plugged in, whether they'd be able to use their LW at your place. Has anyone ever done this?

melitica June 6th, 2006 04:42 PM

oK, HERE aRe the answers

;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
1. No, there's no firewall icon.
2. Motorola USB Modem, and my isp did'nt informed me about my router, and i dont know how to find it out on my own. excuse my ignorance.
3. Yes, thats the test, and it did'nt work
4. I swear there's no preferences folder, i looked for it everywhere, i even looked it with the windows search. There is no preferences folder, i dont know why
5. I guess the laptop thing is an interesting idea, but right now i dont know anyone who owns one:p :p :p :p :p .

birdy June 6th, 2006 05:14 PM

Well I'm stumped. Are you living in an appartment complex? There might be something within the cabling that's causing the connection problem?

Somebody else might have a better idea...

melitica June 8th, 2006 09:48 PM

No, i dont live in an apartment complex. I guess that you gave up on me. I dont know whats causing the problem, and like i said i hope you can help me.

wondering why June 9th, 2006 12:34 AM

What fixes out of the suggestions have you tried so far???

melitica June 9th, 2006 09:36 PM

well, i've tried them all, but nothing has changed, limewire still wont connect.

melitica June 12th, 2006 03:15 PM

I guess there's no solution, but thanks anyway.

birdy June 12th, 2006 10:02 PM

I'm having one last stab at this, I've been through all of your threads once again. In the very first thread you posted, you said that your files were full of viruses. LOTR gave you a link to Norbiesworld to fix the problem... did you ever go there? I can't find any posts by you on Norbie's site (but you might have used a different name).

Does this mean that your connection to LW screws up at a certain time of day only? Or does it mean that your internet connection in general screws up?
You're not firewalled but your port 6346 is blocked. Now that really makes me think that it's some sort of problem with your ISP even though you've changed ISP & you have friends with the same ISP who can use LW. It could be that your friends are all on different speeds & internet plans than you & so are not having the same problems??? Maybe you've exceeded your download limit for the month?? Have you ever asked your ISP why port 6346 is blocked?? I think you should ask them this question.

I'd also suggest that you do go to Norbiesworld and just get him to check your computer out. Register & follow the directions for free computer help. Just in case there is something hiding on your comp. You've tried just about every fix in the book for connection problems & obviously nothing's helped.
I hope this is resolved for you eventually:)

Anyone else who may have an idea, please add it!!

melitica June 13th, 2006 09:34 PM

Thanks a lot for your reply. My connection use to ***** up at that time of the day, but after a while i stopped having problems with it. The problem with my isp is that they are still testing the connection, so they have to make experiments with it, that's why it screws up. Now, i called them and asked them why they wore blocking 6346 and they told me they wore'nt blocking it. So i went to a friend's house with the exact same isp and the exact same internet plan, i installed limewire and it worked quite well. And about norbies world, do you think they can help me with limewire??? The hole thing looks hopeless, i guess i'm just gonna have to resign and listen to fm/am radios, i've tried everything. Even paid a lot of money for a new isp.
