Firewalled by Router With my router firewall disabled Limewire connects. With it enabled it won't. I have UPnP enabled I thought as long as UPnP was enabled Limewire access would be possible. Any ideas? |
Sometimes you have to use manual port forwarding instead. What's the brand & model of your router? You shouldn't have to disable the internal firewall, rather port forward through it:) Late edit - when you enabled UPnP, did you also tick Use UPnP & then Apply within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config?? |
Thanks for the reply It is a Billion 7402VGP and UpnP is selected in Limewire advanced firewal config |
Ok, I can't find any port forwarding instructions for your model! The portforward.com site has instructions for the 7402g & 7402VGO. There's a wee bit of info on the Billion forum here http://www.billion.com.au/forums/lof...php/t4684.html Someone else on that forum did say they'd set up p/f for their 7402VGP using instructions at the portforward site... I'm guessing they used the VGO instructions but that's just a big guess!! Maybe you should get onto the Billion forum & ask if you can use those instructions for your model. If you can, go to www.portforward.com & you'll find the info there. Sorry I can't help more:o |
I am another Billion router user that is having trouble connecting to Limewire. Before installing the router I was using an ADSL modem and could connect to Limewire no problem. Since buying my Billion 7402GL router I have been unable to connect to Limewire. I get the brickwall symbol and my connection is only one green bar. I keep getting a message that says my firewall is blocking access to gnutella but I have allowed the port 6346 in my router's firewall config and allowed Limewire in my antivirus software - which is Norton Internet Secutiry. Can anybody helf? |
As Birdy suggested you will have to Port Forward, check out her links and see if your Router is listed....;) |
This is the instructions for the 7402g, it may be along the same line...You could try it and see how you go.... http://www.portforward.com/english/r...g/Limewire.htm |
tappit, if you're using XP then make sure you've turned off the XP firewall. It will conflict with Norton & cause problems. Just double check that LW's listening port is still 6346 (my port has changed by itself before:confused:). Your model isn't listed at the portforward site either. Does the router support UPnP? If it does then enable it within the router & tick within LW's options > advanced > firewall config then Apply. No guarantees but it's worth a try! |
Birdy or anyone I've just noticed that when I open "LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config??" I don't get the full options box-the apply choice is not visible so maybe the UPnP selection is not active. How do I make the box bigger? |
For your options window there are a few hints here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...options+window It really shouldn't matter to applying after a change though... if you change something & forget to Apply you'll get a popup reminding you that you've made changes & asking if you want to save them! |
Thanks Wondering Why and Birdy. I am completely stumped. When I try to search in Limwire it looks like it is searching for the audio file I want but I don't get any results. I have followed all instructions; ensured Windows firewall is turned off; made sure the listening port is 6346; added a packet filter in the router; the router does support UPnP. Thanx fo ryour help but I think i am destined not to download from Limewire anymore. The weird thing is that it worked fantastically until I got my router. |
That sounds like either a Java or skins or Graphics card problem. Which version of Java do you have? Which operating system are you running? Is the window part invisible or are the buttons missing. See if you can drag the bottom part of the window & drag it down. |
tappit, If you're convinced it's your router, go over to the Billion forum & see if they can give you any hints. http://www.billion.com.au/forums/lofiversion/index.php/ Because your model's not listed with portforward, I'm just not too sure whether you can use another model's port forwarding instructions:o |
Thanks Birdy - I will try that site. |
Thanks everyone-I'll try the port forwarding when I feel confident or desperate enough !! |
What you could do is just go through the port forward instructions for the 7402VGO & have a look at them. You don't have to do anything to your router - just have a look through & see what's involved. Then if you decide to have a go, get on the Billion forum & see if those instructions will suit your model too, someone else there might have some good advice:) Good luck! |
