Make sure you're using Java 1.5
I think the latest java 1.5 update forces people to use it but I'm not sure. To be sure see Setting up Java 1.5

Also, go to your LW Pro personal download page & look for the beta link at the bottom of the page. Then find the LW 4.11.4 pro beta & try it & see if the same problems occur.

Lord of the Rings June 13th, 2006 04:18 AM

Are you having the same problem with LW beta 4.11.4? Off-hand I'm not sure what the problem might be.

I've searched the OSX sections of the forums & came up with these: 1. Click on link 1, & 2. Click on link 2, & 3. Click on link 3,
& 4. Click on link 4

Go to your Utilities folder & open Console & look for LW log reports & post one here. That way we may be able to find what the problem is. ;)

Lord of the Rings June 14th, 2006 04:57 PM

Sorry about your desecrated pm sent to me. I'm not sure about the JavaStub option as I've never used it myself. Description sounds straight forward though a little tricky.

Can you post a log report for LW. That will hopefully show what the problem is. ;) BTW how much RAM do you have?

stief June 15th, 2006 06:15 PM

JewlsB, I see you were having trouble with java and your system.

Did the Pro support folks show you how to use the Terminal, or the Console?

JewlsB June 15th, 2006 06:36 PM

noone has showed me how to use terminal or console....?
im starting to get a little confused with all these computer terms.

stief June 15th, 2006 06:45 PM

OK--they are indeed confusing, but they will help track down your problem.

We need to find out why LimeWire is quitting when loading.

Console will (I hope) give an error message when you try to open LimeWire.

Console is in your Applications folder inside the Utlities folder.

Could you open Console, and then try to open LimeWire, and then note what messages are shown in the Console?

You can post the parts here, or PM me if you preferr.

Cheers

Download. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...lease4ppc.html
Install.
Try a java app as LW.

Your Java VM was corrupted hence you need to reinstall it.

Ciao

stief June 15th, 2006 07:33 PM

OK --that helps a bit. Java is crashing (JavaNativeCrash_pid278.crash.log).

What kind of processor does your Mac use? AppleMenu->About this Mac should show something like "Processor 1.4.2 GHz PowerPD G4"

Once we know that, we can then redownload java, and try to reinstall it

for the PowerPC, here's the link http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...lease4ppc.html

the intel macs need to use http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...ase4intel.html

stief June 16th, 2006 03:15 PM

OOh--that's not good.

I'm assuming you did a safe boot and a normal restart after the install.

What did Console show this time?

JewlsB June 17th, 2006 10:17 AM

no

I didn't do a safe re boot...so now what should i do? uninstall and try angain using safe boot?

stief June 17th, 2006 10:43 AM

after a safe boot, and then a normal boot, try to start LimeWire and note what the Console shows.

Lord of the Rings June 17th, 2006 10:45 AM

Oh .. I'm slow typing at this time ...

Safe boots & repairing of permissions is recommended after installing new software. Then reboot normally of course before you open LW. BTW which version of QuickTime do you have? Do you still have remnants of QT 6 or earlier on your system? Have a look at your receipts folder & see if there are earlier versions. This might not be a fix but possibly be related. Tell us if you find earlier versions.

I was wondering ... unless you've done a complete reformat of your disks, I presume you still have some old softw on your system.

How do I reformatt all disks?

Lord of the Rings June 17th, 2006 11:16 AM

Out of curiousity do you have a SCSI drive? Do you also have Classic environment installed (such as OS 9)? Your G3 was around the 600 MHz right? The last official G3 was 450 MHz but I recall there was an option to speed them up beyond this. I can't remember how ... unless it was turning the clock up or something.

My My I'm slow typing tonight! No I was asking if you ever had reformatted your disks. I'm NOT suggesting you should.

Perhaps you should look at this: QuickTime 7.0.4 bug stops LimeWire from opening!

JewlsB June 17th, 2006 11:19 AM

what is a SCSI drive... Yes i also have classic os 9. My processor is 600 MHz power pc G3

i have 640 MB SDRAM

Lord of the Rings June 17th, 2006 11:20 AM

Sorry I edited in my last link. Check it out about QT as this might be your problem.

stief June 17th, 2006 11:23 AM

JewlsB, can you tell us more about MenuCracker? It was causing some kern protection failures according to their bug reports http://sourceforge.net/projects/menucracker

There was no response to a request for uninstalling it.

You must have a blue & white G3 then. No that model didn't come with SCSI HDD's which is a type of HDD & interface. It has 4 ATA HDD slots instead but with the option of SCSI. Nowadays SCSI drives are much faster than ATA. According to a conversation I had with an apple tech ... for high end work ... SCSI can get up to over 70 K rpm (not for public retailing unless you have a lot of money) which is about 10 times faster than ATA HDD's. They might even be faster I can't remember. But that's heresay I guess.

a google of "bus error os x" turned up only old posts and bad news: the only suggestions I could find were pointing to reinstalling the system.

Uggg. And you've done that already once before, if I recall correctly.

I've left a message foran expert to look at your problem, but they're not available now, and I doubt they'd be able to take a look any time soon.

i have no idea what to do? Should i try to download a different program all together? I dont want to pay for lw if it isnt gonna work for me!!!!!!
jewlsb

thanks for tryin

stief June 21st, 2006 05:19 AM

Pay? LimeWire is free :)

All the other filesharing programs for Macs are based on java or LimeWire. As long as your system is messed up, the others won't work.

Run Webstart (It's in Applications/Utilities/Java). I expect it will crash too.

Right?

JewlsB June 21st, 2006 06:13 AM

Lw Pro

I paid like $20.00 to get LW Pro.... and if it's not working - i have tried to fix this problem now for like 2-3weeks....its frustrating.......
