I can't connect at all no matter what i do I have done everything everyone has talked about i have uninstalled and reinstalled over and over and deleted the .limewire, and then set the connection to not auto connect. I have changed the listening ports over and over. I found a site that told me how to set up gnutella on my firewall that way i could connect to the internet. I have changed my firewall settings over and over i have looked at everything and still i cannot connect. it just shows one little green bar and says that i have not an active connection, yet i can surf the net, but somehow i can't connect to limewire. I have also download other free file sharing programs just to see if it was just limewire and i still encounter the same problem. Please someone help me i am at a lost at what to do now. |
Same boat Hey I think we are sort of in the same boat if you ever get a solution - PLEASE share!!!!!! Julie Bayer |

Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 12. Does anyone see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW? |
hey, just in case you wonna know, lord of the rings, that's the exact same problem i have |
same here I am in the same boat as you. i have tried tons of different port numbers and nothing. here are answers about my system 1. i am using mac osx 2. how do i know WHAT FIREWALLS I HAVE? 3. 256 MB SDRAM 4. 5 GB available 5. wireless connection 6. ??? 7. connecting from home 8. limewire pro 9. wi-fi internet provider 10. no 11. yes, test worked! 12. brick wall!! yes! |
I too have followed all these instructions and I still can't get my LW to connect. I even uninstalled and reinstalled my router, tried NOT using my router, shut off my firewall even though LW has access, the 'test' doesnt do anything except take me to a blank page and I have a brick wall in front of the earth. My limewire worked awesome for about 3 months then BAM nothing....I have XP, a dell inspiron 600m laptop, more harddrive space than I will ever use, a 1GB procesessor and it doesnt matter. I can't connect. :( I want to purchase the LW pro but if this is how it will work I'm not wasting my money. any one know of another program I can use instead of LW?? |
jflash, sorry that you're still stuck in Pigsnot & still can't connect! You seem to have tried just about everything, even port forwarding. It sounds a bit suss to me but I can't find anything about your ISP blocking p2p or using traffic shaping! You could try Bearshare Lite but stay with version 5.1.0 or older (there's a link for download of that version below) http://www.filehippo.com/download_bearshare_lite/ |
Thanks Birdy and I will try the BearShare and let ya know. I really loved my LW....and it is greatly missed...it sure made Pigsnot more bearable :) |
well birdy...it isn't my Limewire afterall....bearshare won't work either :( something very weird and strange has happened to my puter and I have no clue..I am a techno weenie and am now at the mercy of my stupidity. *sigh* |
Give your ISP a call & ask them why your port 6346 is blocked! Try to find out if they've started blocking p2p. If you really think it's something going on with your computer, go to Norbiesworld & get him to check things out. It's all free & he's really good. Click on the link below & follow the instructions for free computer help. Download Hijackthis from the links on the site, scan & post the log in the Viruses & Trojans section of his forum. Norbiesworld Good luck:) |

Lots of instructions here Firewall setup Do this test & see what your result is http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Read through this, it has heaps of info Connection problems? Check here first! What are your details? OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW Do you see the brick wall firewall icon? |
