Can't Connect I just downloaded LW lastnight and in connections it shows about 9 or 10 hosts, they all say connecting. The odd time one will show the status as outgoing, but this only lasts a few seconds. They are constantly replacing each other with new ones. Help PLEASE! Here is my info: OS: Windows XP Professional LW & Java version: LW-4.12.3, Java-5.0.70.3 Firewall you're using: Windows Modem/router brand & model: D-Link ISP: Connection type: Cable Where you connect from: Home Are you sharing a connection with other computers: Yes, one Is this your first try with LW: No, first time with XP though |
anybody? please?:( |
Have you configured your XP firewall to allow LW? Firewall setup Do this test & see whether it works http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Who is your ISP? We might need the model of your router:) Have you read this? It has heaps of info about connection problems & their fixes Connection problems? Check here first! |
Yes i tried all of those links allready, and still no go. That test doesnt work (page cannot be displayed) ISP: eastlink Router: DI-614+ Thanks for replying |
Well something is blocking LW's default port, possibly your ISP. There are a few articles around that suggest Eastlink are using traffic shaping for p2p. You should give them a call & find out whether they are limiting p2p use, you might find that whatever you try is useless in that case:( You could try using a different port, there are some ideas here Alternative Ports If you change ports, remember to also change port numbers allowed within the XP firewall. |
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the earth)?? |
yes, there is a brick wall infront of the earth |
Give your ISP a call & see if you can find out why port 6346 is blocked. You could have a try with one of the higher port numbers, see what happens. |
Ok, thanks a lot. It's almost midnight and i was trying to figure this out since u work up. I'll call them in the morning and let you know how i make out thanks again! |
1 Attachment(s) If this helps any, here is a print screen of my connections |
Yeah, that just means that your LW can't connect to any ultrapeers. When you've got a stable connection to 3 then you'll see the green connection bars come up. See how you go with all this tomorrow:) |
I can't connect too. It's connecting all the time. OS: Windows XP Professional LW & Java version: LW-4.12.3, Java-5.0.70.3 Firewall you're using: Windows (Turn Off) Modem/router brand & model: D-Link ISP: Connection type: ADSL Where you connect from: Home (Thailand) This is link to my connections screen http://www.upfile.us/ziiz/src5tdoc2.doc |
Do this test, does it work? http://www3.limewire.com:6346 Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Who is your ISP & what's the model of your DLink? Have you used LW or other p2p apps before? Read through this Connection problems? Check here first! You're better off to have a firewall configured for LW rather than turned off. You'll find a link for firewall setup within that thread. |
I have tested you can see in link below. Sorry, my router is not D-Link but it's PTI 818 (http://www.paradigm.com.tw/P3_ADSL_P818.html) http://www.upfile.us/ziiz/chmmhdoc3.doc Thank alot for quickly reply. :) |
Did you configure the XP firewall? Since you're seeing the firewall icon... your router supports UPnP so try enabling it & then choosing 'Use UPnP' within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Apply to save the change. Your router does have an internal firewall but I can't find any instructions for how to set up port forwarding for this router. There are several other PTI routers listed with portforward.com here http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm Perhaps you could find out whether the instructions for any of these other routers could be used to port forward your model? If you contact PTI support, someone should be able to help you:) |
Did you configure the XP firewall? NO, I didn't, but now the brick wall is unappear :) and in router configuration is "Use UPnP (Recommened)" Sometimes can connect and quickly change to "connecting" :( Now, I can load some music but it's very very very slow  |
Is your ISP MaxNet or T.O.T?? I have MaxNet and they sometimes try to shape the bandwidth I'm using. I've already complained several times (with some threatening emails), which prompted them to check my line and then it got faster for quite some time. After that it started again till the next mail of mine. Anothe issue I had so far was some Spyware program I have installed, which slowed down the speed. After I disabled the "on-guard" function, my connection speed got better as well. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1.../Smilywais.gif |
same problem here, cant connect, got tons of connections, but there loading or something. i did the test, worked. firewall is on. but i dont really understand what PTI's and things are :S please help? thnx |
PTI is the name of the router of this user. If you want to know what a router is, please read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Router And if you want us to help you with your problem, then it would be nice if you could answer the following questions: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1.../Smilywais.gif |

First of all, please do not double post in the forums about the same topic........it's against the [size=1] House Rules. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. And second, we try to help you here as fast as our volunteered time allows us to do, so please be patient if you don't get an instant reply from the members (it's a forum here and not a fast food restaurant) To your last post: Since you have ME as your OS, which has no built-in firewall, and you're not aware of any Antivirus Program which may have come with a Firewall function (i.e. Norton Security), I assume that you do not have a computer based firewall. To find out about your RAM size you could go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM.....there under System Properties>General you should actually see it (if I do not remember wrongly). Modem & router is the outside box you plug-in your phone jack to connect to the internet. If you plug in directly to the computer, it would mean that you have an onboard modem. To find out about the Java version you're using, go to LW>Help>About LW. The ISP (Internet Service Provider) is the company you have to pay money in order to connect to the internet. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1.../Smilywais.gif |
