Cant Connect

I downloaded limewire last night, it would not connect. Keep getting the no connection error message. I performed all the troubleshooting steps several times over, I even disabled my windows firewall, and my norton antivirus at one point and still couldn't connect. I even removed limewire from my system and reinstalled it several times and that hasn't helped. I paid for the service and I am not very happy right now that I can't use it!!!!!

Try posting more specific info on setup first. Please try to answer all the questions.

1. What's your connection like - do you have any green bars at all?
Is there a brick wall in front of world ?

2. Do this test & see if it works. What does it say ?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

3. What are your details

OS ? (Win XP, Mac OSX etc.)
How much free harddiskspace ?
How much RAM ?
LW & Java version ? (In Limewire press Help>about LW & you'll see)
What Firewall you're using ?
Modem/router brand & model ?
Are you using portforwarding, UPnP or nothing ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)
What is your listening port ? (Same as above)
ISP (Internet Service Provider) ?
Connection type ? (modem, DSL etc) + Speed Up/Down if you know
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Has Limewire ever worked for you ? If so how long have you been using it ?

Have you tried using any other P2P apps & if so, do you have the same problems ?

Also include any attempts to fix this. It helps people rule things out

This is one possible explanation, because something is blocking Limewire

http://forums.gnutelliums.com/showpo...8&postcount=38

They might be blocking only the lower ports

Try changing they listening port to one in this range 49152 through 65535

Also UPnP may not be working properly

BTW I hope you got it from www.limewire.com and not some scamsite

emtga2069 July 25th, 2006 10:40 AM

Is there anything else i can do?

Sleepless July 25th, 2006 10:47 AM

If your ISP is blocking Limewire there is not much you can do exept change ISP

Try calling them to check if they do. If they say they don't then portforwarding is an option.

Did you get limewire from www.limewire.com . Very uncommon that people pay for Pro before trying Basic

Hey just figured it out!!!!!! Thanks for all your help!!!! Here is something that may help other alltel users also!!!!!!!

Alltel has been changed to windstream.... go to the windstream.net website
in the upper right hand corner of the page they have a broadband checkup center click on that and go to firewall... u can pick the strength of the firewall i turned mine completely off and now limewire works... ps....u may have to download active x controls but that is also on the windstream website.

Good to hear

Just make sure that you have some protection running on the PC. At least the Windows Firewall or some other better firewall (only use one firewall). Just allow Limewire.exe in exeptions
