Try posting more specific info on setup first. Please try to answer all the questions.

1. What's your connection like - do you have any green bars at all?
Is there a brick wall in front of world ?

2. Do this test & see if it works. What does it say ?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

3. What are your details

OS ? (Win XP, Mac OSX etc.)
How much free harddiskspace ?
How much RAM ?
LW & Java version ? (In Limewire press Help>about LW & you'll see)
What Firewall you're using ?
Modem/router brand & model ?
Are you using portforwarding, UPnP or nothing ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)
What is your listening port ? (Same as above)
ISP (Internet Service Provider) ?
Connection type ? (modem, DSL etc) + Speed Up/Down if you know
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Has Limewire ever worked for you ? If so how long have you been using it ?

Have you tried using any other P2P apps & if so, do you have the same problems ?

Also include any attempts to fix this. It helps people rule things out

barzy July 26th, 2006 11:19 AM

1.i have just 1 green bar, yes there is a brick wall in front of world.
2.it says your test worked.
3. Windows 98,4009MB,192 MB RAM,4.12.3 LW,JAVA 1.5.0_07,intel ham data voice fax modem, using UPNp,listening port 48821,service provider ntl, connection type modem, connecting from home, limewire has always worked for me never really had any problems before, thanks.

If you have a software firewall try removing the exeption for limewire.exe that you had before and adding a new one

If that doesn't work

Try deleting the Limewire preference folder while Limewire is closed. (Remember to take a note of the settings because you will have to set Limewire up from scratch) More on this in this Thread + some other fixes

Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

Could you post a bug report here

In Limewire go to Tools>Options>Bugreports then press view example bugreport

Click somewhere in it then press Ctrl+a and then Ctrl+c

then paste it in a reply here

Try in Limewire to go to Tools>Options>Advanced>firewall Config

Choose manual Port forward and enter the same number as your listening port

Might be better to choose a higher number 49152 through 65535

This is just a guess BTW so don't get your hopes up just yet

I just don't like the fact that UPnP chooses such a low number

Tryed Everything Aswel!

hi, i have had limewire for years and it has worked fine, but ever since iv updated it to 4.12.4 it wont connect, i purchased limewire pro after because i though it would work an i still have the same problem, it has not been connecting for around a week now and its annoying me, i have a wall in front of the world but i dont think i have a firewall. it does connect but only gets to a fair connection which is 3 bars then diconnects again, also my little limewire icon is grey not green and yellow which is unusual but i think thats just where it doesnt connect, i have tryed everything including deleting the preference foler and that and it still doesnt work. i have windows 98, could someone please help me and find something that works please! cheers

foolofthehill August 1st, 2006 10:01 PM

From the bug report:
" Received incoming this session: false "
That means LW detects a firewall. What security programs do you have installed on your computer?? It can't be from your modem, since it is an onboard modem (if I remember correctly; and I think they don't have built-in firewalls).

i dnt have any programs with a firewall, well not that i know of anyway, does winzip have a firewall?

foolofthehill August 2nd, 2006 07:54 AM

Winzip doesn't have a firewall; it is a program to compress/decompress files.
I 've gone through your bug report once more; the listening port is 2661 and not 48821 as you said in your post.
Possible programs with firewall are McAfee, Norton, AOL, to name a view.
Here is an example of my bug report:

Do you have any of those programs mentioned above on your computer?
The firewall problem must originate from somewhere...

hi,iv tryed to find the source of my firewall but i cant find it,i tryed downloading kazaa just to see if it worked and the same thing happens with that it wont connect, this is stupid now theres got to be a way to get my limewire working surely?is having a grey limewire icon in your system tray normal? cheers

barzy August 6th, 2006 05:36 AM

??

Lord of the Rings August 6th, 2006 06:01 AM

Try downloading a magnet file link from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Tell us what happens.

So you're using a dial up service for connecting to the net?

foolofthehill August 6th, 2006 06:02 AM

No, a grey icon is not normal (only if you have some graphic card issue).
I'm quite confused with your problem and I believe that there is somewhere an information (which you might think has nothing to do with LW) that we havn't heard so far and being the possible reason for your problem.

Try one more thing; right click the LW icone on your desktop, go to properties and then to Compatibility. There you change to Compatibility to either Windows 2000 or Windows NT (try one after the other if the first doesn't work out).

Did you have any installation of programs, updates of programs or added hardware to your computer prior to LW not more working??

barzy August 6th, 2006 08:32 AM

tryed downloading a magnet file, it just loads up limewire but still does not connect, yes i do use a dial up service to connect to the net its ntl:world, wel i do have an grey limewire icon in my system tray so that could have something to do with it,i dont no what it is thats blocking limewire the most i get is a fair connection but that goes after about 10 seconds,i have windows 98 so when i right click the desktop icon you dont have the option to change the compatibility, no i dont think i have downloaded anything recently, all iv been trying to do is get limewire working,i no its got to be something?
