Can't connect I just download limewire and for what ever reason it will not connect to the network and I did try the WINDOWS XP INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL steps and that also didn't work so I turned off all my firewalls but yet limewire still detects one (it shows one on the little icon). What should I do. The problem may stem back to when I installed limewire because again for whatever reason my computer would not performe the online instillation so I did the offline one. |

The firewall LW's detecting might also be coming from within a modem or router. Have a read through the thread below, it's got lots of info about firewalls. Find out whether your modem/router has an internal firewall, you might have to enable UPnP or set up port forwarding. Connection problems? Check here first! Do this port test & see if it works http://www3.limewire.com:6346 If you're still stuck, post back with your details OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW *The offline installation's fine... causes fewer problems than the online one:) |
OK, I passed the port test and I have just the windows firewall on 1. Xp 2. Java 3. Windows (the one that comes standard) 4. None 5. DSL 6.Appartment 7. No 8. No, I used LW on my old computer but not at this location |
OK I passed the port test and I only have the windows firewall on and I still can't connect 1.XP 2.Java 3.Windows standard 4.None 5.not sure 6. DSL 7 Appartment 8 nope 9 no i used it on my old computer but at a different location |
Do you know who your ISP is? Are you living in student accommodation or something, where everyone connects through the building's network (I'm guessing this as you don't have a modem or router)? If so, you might have to talk to whoever's in charge of the internet service & find out the policy on p2p use. You could try changing to a higher port (try one in the range of 49152 - 65535). If you do change the listening port, remember to also change port numbers allowed through the XP firewall:) |
I live at an appartment and I recieve my internet though them and I have no idea who they go though. Other people in my room though can use limewire and I changed my port number and that also didn't work |
