Still can"t connect

I am using XP and I turned off all my firewalls but yet there is still the brick wall showing I have one on. Anyone have any ideas

If your connected through a router/modem, they usually have a nat firewall in them. If so you'll have to configure it to allow limewire access to the internet. See this thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357

I don't go though a router. All I have is the ethernet cord pluged into my laptop.

6_pac August 12th, 2006 09:41 PM

Whats the other end of the ethernet cable plug into? Does it go into a box or plug into the wall?

Any details you can give about your setup will help:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

ok, now I am going through a router and plug and play is turned on.
XP
windows firewall
1 GB of ram
70 GB of disk space
Broadband/Lan
linksys not sure modle number
appartment
newest limewire (java)
sharing connection at times with another person who lives with me he doesn't use any P2P programs
I have used limewire but never on my new computer at this location
I passed the port test

henne197 August 17th, 2006 06:20 PM

I also have noticed that I can connect to the edonkey sever with another
P2P program that connects to many servers and with that one it also can't connect to the gnutella server

Sleepless August 17th, 2006 06:28 PM

Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might be blocking the Gnutella Network. Gnutella isn't a server. Every user that connects to the network becomes a server

Who is your ISP ?

What kind of P2P does work for you ?

birdy August 17th, 2006 06:30 PM

Gnutella doesn't have a central server, you're connecting to other computers:)

If you've got UPnP enabled within the router, do you also have it checked within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config?
From what some of the forum gurus say, I gather that some Linksys models are a bit unreliable in UPnP mode. You could try port forwarding, but to give you detailed instructions, we're going to need the model number. Have a look all over the router, it should be written somewhere. If there's a manual floating around somewhere, it should be written there as well.

wrt54g v5 that is the model number and I am still trying to get in touch with my ISP. The P2P program that does work is "shareaza." It seems like a hybrid that connects to 4 different networks like edonkey and Gnutella 1&2. But on that one as well It can't connect to Gnutella but it can to edonkey. I hope that helps because there isn't much on edonkey

Regarding your Linksys

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=3458&p=5

Post 101 and 103

http://www.linksysinfo.org/portal/index.php

Linksys forum. Should try and register and search/post about this there

If succesful then try to find something that looks like your router here

henne197 August 18th, 2006 03:15 PM

ok, I tried the port forwarding and that like everything else didn't work. Does anyone know why I can connect to edonkey but not Gnutella

Sleepless August 18th, 2006 03:23 PM

Is your router firmware updated ? The first link there was about problems with portforwarding without the new firmware.

Seriously try to register at the forum (second link) and ask about this)

henne197 August 18th, 2006 08:32 PM

To be honest I don't think it is my router becasue before I used this router I was unable to connect to Gnutella, I this it is something on my computer blocking it. Finally I ******ed my ISP and I am waiting for a responce

When you tried to portforward are you absolutely sure that you did it correctly ie. setting up a static IP that your router accepts (usually the next 100 numbers ) eg on my new one it's 192.168.2.1 so my static IP must be between 192.168.2.101 and 192.168.2.199.

Also in Limewire is your manual port forward port and your listening port the exact same port (recommended is one between 49153 and 65535)

henne197 August 19th, 2006 09:04 AM

With the port forwarding when I typed all the IP, and subnet, and deflut gateway, and what not I tried to connect to the internet and it wouldn't let me so I had to change everything back to its defult setting. Also on that portforwarding website they don't have my model of router so I had to use the last model's instructions. But that wasn't much of a deal it was the part of setting up the static IP

To your information (from the Linksys website about your router):

"The Router protects your PC from most known Internet attacks with a powerful Stateful Packet Inspection firewall."

Go and download the new firmware for it:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...VisitorWrapper

And here the direct link to Port forwarding regarding your router configuration for Limewire:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...G/Limewire.htm

All other information is given to you by the post of sleepless.....;)
You just have to follow it to the point.
And since your router has a strong firewall, there will be no need to have any other (software base). Disable and/or uninstall them where possible.

Was the default setting to automatically assign Ip address, subnetmask etc. ?

If it was then there is a way to see those settings. Just have to find the instructions

Sleepless August 19th, 2006 09:54 AM

While connected to the internet

press start>run. Type cmd into the box and press enter

then type ipconfig (if that shows some other connection then type ipconfig \all)

You will then see IP Address, Subnet mask, Gateway IP etc.

Just make a note of these things and fill them into the boxes manually

henne197 August 19th, 2006 02:29 PM

I'll try this stuff and get back to you tomarrow but I still think that it is a problem with my computer and not the router
