still cannot connect to limewire

Hello. I recently downloaded and installed limewire today onto my labtop computer and have been having trouble connecting to the gnutella network. I have configured my windows firewall to the port listed in the listening port section of limewire. I have turned UpnP on under my router settings as well as forwarded the same port as i did under my firewall. Any additional help you could offer me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Do this test & see what result you get
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe)? Have a look through this thread about connection problems (if you havent already). Double check your port forwarding settings, maybe you missed a step? Did you set up a static IP address first?
Connection problems? Check here first!

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

windows xp
limewire 4.12.6/ java 1.5.0_02
windows firewall
netgear WGR6145v5
Cable
comcast
home connectino/wireless
not fire time user

i got "your test worked" after clicking the link
I'm a little timid to attempt stetting up a static ip at the moment, dont want to mess up entire internet. Limewire works fine on my deskstop computer, which is connected to the same internet source just an older version

I guess you mean Netgear WRG614 v5:)
There's no point port forwarding without setting up a static IP first (I checked & your router does need one)... just won't work.
Some people have found that with the latest versions of LW, they need to port forward whereas with older versions they didn't have to. Don't ask me why!

Sounds like enabling UPnP hasn't done anything so maybe p/f's your other option if you want to use the new version.
Silly question, but have you double checked all your Win firewall settings?

Shroomy0829 September 8th, 2006 06:49 PM

yea i have double checked them.
weird, maybe thats why my desktop one works since its an older version.
alright, well it looks like if i want to get it work on this computer i gotta p/f. Thank you for your time and help.
