aol 9.0 security not letting LW in. PLZ HELP?

ok so as i mentioned in a previous post, LW isnt letting me connect. i get that message that says: LW was unable to initialize and start. this is usually due to a firewall program blocking LW's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. please allow limewire to access the internet and restart LW. I have Norton Antivirus and XP firewall. I disabled the xpwall completley and configured the norton to let lw in.. and yet it still wont connect. so i have come to the assumption that it must be my aol 9.0..
anyone know how to deactivate whatevers going on with it? any ideas? please let me know.. the whole things driving me bannanas and i just want my limewirreee <3

thanks loves :]

Try disableing UltraPeer capabilities in LW. Go to Tools>Options>Speed, tick the box by "disable UltraPeer Capabilities" and click apply. Sometimes this will cause problems with connecting, especially for those on dial-up.

For tips on setting up LW to work with a dial-up connection, read through this thread(Grandpa's and LOTR's posts): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=48906

AOL's anti-spyware(Pest Patrol) may be causing you problems. Try allowing exceptions for LW or disable it. Though it usually deletes LW so that might not be it. Some info here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...71&postcount=6

What was the program? It could come in handy for future reference;).

Hi,
I contacted you the other day and you kindly responded however I cant' find your reply. I ended up mine fixied and it was a hidden firewall problem with in the McAfee software. I had to go into McAfee Firewall Express and grant access for LW to be on the system. It had blocked all sorts of other programs too.. one was my AOL program. Learn something new everyday.
Thanks again for your help. Paula
