Firewall Problems Hello. This is my first time using LimeWire, but I seem to have 2 problems with it. 1st thing is, I can't seem to get a decent connection. I have Windows XP and broadband, and I'm trying to connect from my room at home. The ISP test worked and UPnP is enabled. The problem is probably my firewalls - at least that's what LimeWire indicates. I have two: Windows Firewall (which I have configured) and McAfee. I can't configure McAfee, since the link on LimeWire's website is dead. Can anyone please explain to me how to do it? 2nd thing is, even though I can't connect, other people seem to be able to connect to my computer? At least, when I look under "Connections", I constantly see 9 different IPs connecting. They usually never connect for more than 14 seconds, but it seems strange to me. When I click on one of them and click "Browse Host", I can see what they're downloading and whatnot. What is up with that? Any help and explanation will be greatly appreciated. :) |
First thing is that you need to dissable either the Windows Firewall or the MacAfee Firewall. Running two software firewalls is not a good idea. MacAfee is probably the better choice on which to keep. Windows Firewall is far from perfect. Second you need to make sure that UPnP is enabled in your Router/Modem as well. Can't really help you much with configuring MacAfee since I never used it myself. I guess that allowing Limewire.exe should be enough. You could try searching with Google for info on how to configure it, and also your Router/Modem if you have access to it. |
