Ive done all the let norton virus thing allow limewire, ive deleted those files in "documents and settings", ive gone to the firewall and said allow gnutella connections. Im totally stumped now what to do. im using windows XP and totaly stuck, limewire just wont work. Please help me im going out of my mind i dont know wots wrong!! |
Have you read through this sticky? Connection problems? Check here first! Start off by making sure that you're not using 2 software firewalls (just use 1) & double check the config of that firewall. XP's firewall will conflict with Norton's so turn the XP firewall off. If you're using a modem/router, read the sections about UPnP & port forwarding within that sticky. If you're stuck, post back with the answers to the questions in post #2 of the sticky;) |
ive switched the XP firewall off and still doesnt work. I dont understand the UPnP thing at all or where it is or what! lol im just totaly confused right now  :( |
Answer the questions....:D Then we'll know about your setup! |
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) XP 2. What firewalls you have? Norton & XP 3. How much ram? dont know lol 4. Hard Disk space available? 33.5GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? dont know what this is 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? uni halls 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. version 4.12.6 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? i dont know 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it says "your test worked!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. no 12. Is this a your 1st try at FW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of FW's interface? yeah stil there when i turn off the firewall |
Lots of schools block p2p. Does anyone else there have LW working properly? You might have to see whoever's in charge of the Uni's internet & find out what the policy on p2p is. If they're not anti-p2p, they might be able to help you out with your connection:) |
the thing is we just given the wire to conect and not told anything. Other people dont have this problem theirs is working ok so it cant be the uni halls thats the problem |
If you're connecting directly to the wall then it's either your software firewall or something to do with the Uni's setup. Find someone who is connecting properly & duplicate what they've done. Are you sure you've configured the Norton firewall properly? Within LW, try file > disconnect then file > connect. |
they havent done anything to it it just works for them. I think its my laptop coz it wouldnt work when i tried using it through wireless at home either. I checked norton again and i double checked it and it does say permit all to limewire. So im totaly stumped. Also i tried file>dc then file>conect :( |
