Lost connection when Ultrapeer I have had LimeWire running for a few days as an Ultrapeer. No problems with the connection through Opera whatsoever, but somewhere I got "kicked off" the Gnutella network while being an Ultrapeer. How does that happen? 1. Windows XP Pro SP2 2. Windows 3. 1536 MB/1.5 GB 4. 4 disks of 200+ GB total. Available, about 120GB 5. Cable modem 6. Motorola SB5101 modem, HP NC3163 Fast Ethernet 10/100 NIC 7. Home 8. LW 4.12.6, Java 1.5.0_09 9. Romerike Multimedia (Local Norwegian ISP) 10. It worked 11. No 12. New problem, but not quite experienced user 13. It starts with a brick wall, which disappears after a few seconds |
opera? this forum is not in any way 'connected' to the gnutella network... UP status is dependant upon a few different variables, perhaps you were unable to supply one...most likely your upstream became saturated and you were an unsuitable UP |
Well, what I meant to convey was that Opera was online the whole time I was an Ultrapeer too, and this didn't go off-line when LimeWire did. If I was unsuited for UP-status, then why didn't I revert back to Leaf? And I don't see why I should be losing UP-status since I was uploading at full rate of 55-60 KB/s. |
IC...sorry, I read your post too fast... I notice you don't mention a firewall...it is possible that you are being maliciously attacked and being 'bumped' from the network...I would also suggest downloading, updating, and using PeerGuardian2: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ |
I realise it's been long since I posted here, but I basically came to a quid pro quo with my system: I don't do anything more to it, and it basically works. Will soon be switching to Ubuntu instead of XP though. The firewall I use for the computer running LimeWire is XP's built-in, and I run avast! 4.7 with P2P shield enabled. This problem hasn't disappeared, I have just learned to live with it. PS: My connection isn't real stable. It can sometimes go down for some reason. The fix is always: Reboot modem. I just find it somewhat odd that when I don't loose my web-connection, I might lose my connection with Gnutella as an Ultrapeer. And I don't get reverted back to Leaf. If I am not suited for Ultrapeer anymore because someone that has better connection/computer has logged on and assumed Ultrapeer-status, then it would be preferable to be reverted to Leaf, not kicked from the network completely. Well, as I am soon getting a new laptop, and replacing Windows on all of my computers, I don't worry too much about this anymore. Have to see if I have to come back later when I have Ubuntu running. |
