Default My Connection Problems

It's been like it for a couple of days and I've followed the details on the "user can't connect page" and the Sticky at the top here. I even reinstalled it (but using the 4.13 version). I followed the useful Norton details in the sticky (I don't have the same images as the ones in the example but I managed to find the same thing), but it said that Limewire was Allowed, rather than Blocked. That's where I'm stumped.

1. OS version? Windows XP Home

2. What firewalls you have? Just using Norton 2006 (or 2007... can't find it but ordered the latest one about 4 months back)

3. How much ram? 960mb

4. Hard Disk space available? 32.2Gb

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) broadband

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear DG834G

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? [I******[/I]

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. Limewire 4.13.0 Java 1.5.0_04

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Utility Warehouse

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? says "Your test worked!"

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Yes - well.... there are two PCs on the same router and (obviously) internet connection if that's what you mean. but they're not networked - they don't share the Limewire connection.

12. Is this a your 1st try at FW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. FW? I've been using Limewire a while but not had this problem before.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of FW's interface? Not now

Crossing fingers!

Since you're not seeing the firewall icon now...has the connection improved??

How do you have your router set up (UPnP enabled, port forwarded or neither)? Your router does have it's own firewall so the problem might not be solely with the Norton firewall
You'll find more info about UPnP & port forwarding in the sticky below

Question

thanks.

no - nothing has changed - i just happened to notice it wasn't there when i had noticed before, but it didn't make any difference at all in terms of downloading. At best I get 3 green bars but it makes no difference essentially. I am currently able to search okay but that's it (I've got 4 bars now as well!!).

i've followed the link you kindly provided, and i did my best to understand (not very well!) everything but just got really confused.

dangerously, i tinkered about a bit and at some point, at some advanced settings on internet connections (on the router methinks) there are two limewires. oh, i just thought - my pc's aren't networked but each have limewire on so i guess that answers that question.

the router is attached physically to the other pc (than the one i'm having problems on). That PC is using Limewire 4.12.6 and Java 1.5.0_06.

It seems logical to me then that the problem isn't with router but either with the connections on this PC or the version of Limewire on here. That said, I'm sure if it's a general issue it would be a known one bcos everyone using it would be having it. I just mean that perhaps for some reason it doesn't 'agree' with my settings or something.

Does any of that seem feasible?

If you were seeing the firewall icon, it could've been because of your router but since that's gone now...probably not a problem.

In another thread you said you were having the same problem as someone else, with songs connecting & then showing 'need more sources'. It sounds like fake files to me. Check the link below...it helped the other person

To try & improve your connection, you could update your Java, the latest JRE is update 9. See point 1 in the thread below & choose the JRE offline installer. Remove your current Java version before you install the new one.
