The default or official gnutella protocol is port 6346 & uses both TCP & UDP but mostly only one of them. I can't recall which off-hand. Is that what you wanted to know? Gnutella Protocol

You're the 2nd person who has upgraded to xp media centre & is now having problems. At least it's similar. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=63933

This might or might not be helpful MS & 3rd party patches for SP2

i have opened the gnutella network ports both computer side and router side so there is no problem there as well as listening ports both side, but i may need to know the specific protocol/server/web service so for eg do you use ftp,http,ldp,ics,pptp,l2tp,pop,smtp, you get the ideo--- so i can make a specific rule.

it may be down to media center cos i cannot run ftp clients or the in built ftp client in windows as i cannot establish a connection with my ftp server

Try portforwarding.

You should not have a problem with MCE if you do that.

If you allready have then sorry, but you haven't mentioned how your settings in Limewire are in regards to connection. In Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Firewall Config set your listening port and forwarded port to the same port. and choose manual portforwarding.

BTW forward the port both TCP and UDP , Incoming and Outgoing

Sorry I don't use XP. I'll ask/message some other members to see if they have ideas but they aren't online at present.

These are just things that could be a problem so don't get your hopes up

Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative tools --> Services

and make sure that the services called 'Plug and Play' and 'Universal Plug and Play Devices' are started. Also have a look at the other services there and see if there is something out of the ordinary.

Now go to Add/Remove Windows Components. Under Networking Services make sure that 'Internet gateway device....' is turned on.

I would really try to get portforwarding to work for Limewire though, instead of using UPnP. I use Media Center Edition as well and have had a lot of trouble with UPnP. I use portforwarding for everything now.

This site has all the info you need to set it up:
www.portforward.com

Did you make sure the XP Firewall did not get turned on when you upgraded. I run XP media center on on of my laptops and it has never had any problems with LimeWire so I do not think it is a media center problem. Unfortunately I just fried the CPU in that Laptop and have sent it back to Gateway for repair (It's only 2 months old) so I can not check to see if there are any setting set up differently on it.

St_jimi's

I do not know anything about "Win XP media centre", I use Win XP (SP2) Home, but it is unlikely that this is the root of your problem.

You see, your ISP BT is famous (or should I say infamous) for blocking P2P traffic so I am not surprised that you, one of BT's many customers, cannot use your P2P app, namely LW.

I ditched BT some time ago because of their restrictive practices and treating their customers like idiots. As far as I am aware, there are only two ISPs in the UK that does not restrict P2P usage, i.e. NTL and Bulldog, but the situation could change because they both have "fair usage" clauses in their contracts.

Finally, there might be other UK ISPs that don't restrict P2P traffic, perhaps other forum members can help out with this point.

UK Bob
