Need more help.

I'm getting that error message that says: "Your machine does not appear to have an active Internet connection or a firewall is blocking LimeWire..." I have tried virtually everything I could find and it still doesn't work. I also have UPnP enabled on my router, and I am unable to do port fowarding due to the other computers and components on my network. I have tried running LW through UPnP and manually choosing a port and neither have been fruitful. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have fixed half of the problem through another thread, the solution was to disable my firewall while running LW, now I can actually search for things and TRY to download things, that's where the other half comes in. Every single file I try to download it just keeps saying "Connecting...", "Need more sources", "Queued" or "Waiting for stable connections." PLEASE HELP!

Re edit: I just booted up LW to see if it might be working now, it reverted back to the original problem even when my firewall is disabled! HELP ME!

1. OS version? : Windows XP Professional (SP2)

2. What firewalls you have? : Windows firewall, but both Lime Wire and it's port is allowed

3. How much ram? : 512 MB

4. Hard Disk space available? : 80GB

5. Connection type? : DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? : Router is SMC7004VWBR and modem is SpeedStream 5360

7. Where are you trying to connect from? : Home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? : LW is 4.12.6 and Java is 1.5.0_08

9. Who is your ISP provider ? : MTS

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? : It says "Your test worked!"

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? : This question isn't clear to me, I do share the internet connection through a wireless router, but do not share the connection to LW

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? : Experienced user but not a completely new problem, I have dealt with before but this time is worse

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? : Yes

Try using a much higher port, like 64049. Make sure that it's your listening port & also allow that port through the XP firewall.

I don't know if this will help at all but check the link below & see if any info there is useful.

There have been some suggestions of MTS throttling p2p bandwidth, it might be worth checking with them to find out their policy re p2p use.

Thanks but still nothing.

Bump

1. Configure your XP firewall properly so LW is allowed; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

2. Perhaps Bell's Speedstream's UPnP is not reliable. Try forwarding a port. That's generally more reliable than UPnP. I don't have specific instructions for your model but the brand is listed here under Bell http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

marc449 November 26th, 2006 04:09 PM

As stated above, I am unable to port foward, also as stated above I have allowed both LW and the port that LW uses. I too did go over the link's instructions and it still doesn't work. Thanks anyways.

Try a different listening port for FW then. Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls. Try one between 49152 - 65535.

Thanks but no go.

Beware of Fake files in search results

What happens when you downld a magnet file from this link http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

marc449 November 30th, 2006 05:57 PM

When I click to download it opens LW and at the download tab there's the file but size is "? KB" and status said "queued" for a few minutes then changed to "need more sources." This was with firewall on and off and now even with the firewall off I only have 1 bar at the bottom and I can't search anymore.

Lord of the Rings November 30th, 2006 07:44 PM

Well that suggests to me your ISP is the problem, not LW. That was a site you downloaded the magnet link from. So why can you downld files from sites with your browser but not LW. Ask your ISP technicians why this is.

Kinda the same problem

But worse I think... Im Having the " Limewire was unable to initialize and start. A firewall might be blocking Limewires access to internet or loopback ((what the heck is a loopback?)) connections on the local machine, please allow limewire to access the net and restart limewire" message everytime i try to start it.

Heres MY story.

Just upgraded to highspeed cable thru my cable tv service. Internet explorer and Aim work great! mozilla firefox, limewire, various online games, and other p2p downloading programs i got off of the net, cant find the connection. Now why is that. 2 programs work on the cable but nothing else. my spyware blocking programs cant even find the connection for updates for themselves.

And i reeeally wanna use lime.

Lime and other p2p sharing programs worked fine on dial up.

after the upgrade, boom, nothing.

People told me check my windows xp firewall and other security things.
Sounds weird but, Im pretty sure i dont have a firewall. Should be in control panel right? nope...

My norton is not running at all cause it expired, my spyware protection progs are shut off, my network connection is running perfectly on ie and aim, but nothing else... No limewire! Eh well :bangh: This should do for now. Any help would be appreciated, to me or the guy above me.

If nothing helps me here im gonna have to call ...gulp... microsoft tech support... haha

Could you expand on this a bit. If you have a complex setup, there could be other factors involved that block Limewire.

Well firstly, just to be sure that you know, LW and several other P2P applications all worked fine while still having the very same setup, although I know sometimes things can happen. Our setup is as follows: we have a main server which is directly connected to a scanner and an external burner. Then we have 2 printers and our internet which are all connected into the wireless router. The server and 3 other computers all have wireless cards to be able to access each other and the devices. Finally there's a third printer which is directly connected through my computer. Since I would have to set a static IP for every computer and then set these for the different devices to work with themselves this would take awhile and would almost certainly end with compatibility issues which I would prefer avoid alltogether. I hope this all helps and is pretty clear, just ask if something is uncertain or does not make sense.

If LImewire just stopped working without anything at all being changed, then it sounds like your ISP and not your setup.

But anyway it should be enough to just forward one port in the router to the server IP, since your computer is directly connected to it. Choose some high number (64049 seems to be a popular choice) so it doesn't interfere with other tasks. Then just change both the listening port and forwarded port in Limewire to 64049.

I've talked to other people using my ISP and they can use LW and other p2p applications, it must be something else. If anyone has any kind of help it would be appreciated.

This is my problem. I have had Limewire for awhile now. I upgraded AOL to 9.0 and all of a sudden, I get a message from limewire that says I cannot connect because of a firewall or a loopback connection. I did a ping test and that works fine. I made limewire and that upup thing exceptions on the firewall. After that didnt work, I turned the firewall completely off. It still doesnt work. There's no protection of any kind through AOL either. So I dont know what the problem could be. And the test that I have seen on here many of times says that my test worked. Im lost and Im about ready to pull my hair out because I love Limewire. Could someone please explain to me how to fix this in English terms. Thanks! I really appreciate it.
