os:xp pro sp2 _ mcfee fierwall plus 10 _ ram 512 _ hard disc 80 gb _ adsl 128kbps _ modem linksys wag200g _ house connection _ limewire 4.12.6 basic _ java 2 runtime 5 update 9 _ isp cyberia (saudi arabia) _ test : your test worked _ share: yes my 2 laptops in wifi both don't work _ I'v been using LW for over than 1 year on the same laptop & same firewall but with a sattelite connection, when I started to use adsl it was ok for 3 days but today it's not _ there is a brick wall I didn't notice before,,, I even opened the port for LW,allowed LW access, please help me before I lose my mind:bangh: :bangh: :bangh: |
By opened a port do you mean you did manual port forwarding on your linksys? For it to work correctly the 1st step must be to set up a static ip. Linksys port forwarding here http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...wers.search_nl & within LW do Manual port forward instructions & sample image BTW if you were going to use 2 limewires with one on each computer, you'd need to do a separate port forward for each but using different ports. Did you make sure UPnP was enabled on the linksys before this? Is your XP firewall disabled? Did you configure McAffee to allow LW? |
dear friend, I'm telling u that yesterday every thing was ok with the same exact settings for the firewall, router, isp,LW but today is a different story. I'm not using 2 LW together & not using 2 firewalls together. My linksys support upnp & it is enabled |
The brick wall represents a firewall. This must be due to something. Possibly your isp. Try going to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & changing Listening port to 64049. Apply. Restart LW. If still no good, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) But make a note of all important settings such as days to keep incomplete files because when you restart LW, you'll need to reset your options. |
dear Lord Of The rings, First , thank you for your time & concern. second, I tried that also but nothing improved. third, I know that the brick wall refers to a firewall that interfere with the connection , but I know it's not mcfee nor linksys & I think It's not my isp because I'v been using LW for 3 days without any problem...so I don't know what else can I do. do you have any ideas???  |
Try Phex to see if you have the same problems. It connects to many other types of ultrapeers other than LimeWire & is good for finding rarer files. But it doesn't have many language options unfortunately. With LW, you could set it not to connect at start up. Then open it, let it load & settle for 10 mins or so, then go to File>Connect. Give it lots of time to try to connect. Otherwise you could try the beta but it probably wouldn't make any difference with connecting; http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml |
BTW I haven't seen too many users with a linksys wag model. Perhaps the UPnP is not functioning reliably. That happens on one of their other range of routers. (though for most models Linksys is very good!) So perhaps port forwarding is something worthy to try. |
Lord Of the Rings... WOW  now this is weerd ; I did every thing all over again & tried LW beta and it worked!!!! :super: It continued my downloads, but no search result no connection signal & even no ultrapeer protocol Just the downloads, & the brick wall is still there>>> do you have any theory or suggestions  |
i used to have a linksys WAG54G .... upnp was nigh to non existant, and to be honest port forwarding was shabby too..... never got one of my games working through that thing. gone for a cheap n cheerful sitecom ADSL Homestation... never had a proble with it |

Perhaps Brad.G's point about UPnP being unreliable also fits for your model. It's probably a later model with later version firmware. But as suggested earlier, one range of the linksys models have major firmware problems. (any model with 54 in its model name but especially the WRT54G is a "lemon") And generally port forwarding is more reliable than UPnP. Though in most Linksys devices the UPnP support is very good. Also, a reboot of the linksys might help. Or just a cold start after turning it off for 10 mins or so. (BTW the LW beta has bit torrent support!) ;) http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml |
well, there is absolutely nothing in connection bar no ultrapeer no stable connection & no trying to connect. I tried restarting my PC & router before but no improvement. This is not a solution . I can't search ... Any suggetion ??? |
Try Phex. See if you have any better luck. |
The same with phex 2.8.10.98 no results only "what's new search" The download is very very slow the expected time is days for 1 mp3 song about 4 mb. this is not like LW at all but all connection is ultrapeer Help please I can't live like this!!!!!!!!!! |
 Again I can't understand what is going on  :yahoo: after I started phex the limewire went straight & started to work just like the good old days,,, :yahoo: Thank you :super: The Lord Of The Rings :super: you have been very helpful ... :Smilywais: :Smilywais: :Smilywais: (all connection are ultrapeer->->what does that indicate??) |
 oh & the brick wall is still there  |
Ultrapeers are who you connect through (help you to connect to the network.) It depends on how many connections you have. If you were ideally set up then you could even be an ultrapeer. But don't ask me about that because I've never been a UP. Not sure about the brick wall. It might be related to your problems. But you're connected & that's most important. Ideally you wouldn't be brickwalled. You couldn't be a UP if you're brickwalled. It could be due to your linksys or your isp. Not easy to determine. In any case, congratulations on getting connected back to the network!!! :xirokrotima: |
I need more help :yikes: well, Today my problem apeared again :yikes: the phex also can't connect to ultra peer I dont know what to do... So I think I will reconfigure every thing again. could you please give me the steps I should follow? What is going on??? no responds !!! no body have a clue !!! come on guys I can't believe this |
dr afd. What you describe sounds more like ISP shaping. My ISP stops file sharing programs between 6.pm & 11.pm. first my download speed drops,to almost nothing, then my connections start droping, then the connection window goes completly blank,Not even anyone trying to connect. Give your ISP a phone call and ask them if there shaping your connection. Rule in or out this possability at least. Then post and tell us what they say Peace. |
Bingo    You were right :xirokrotima: mickjapa108 :xirokrotima: , when I talked to them yesterday they denied that they have anything to do with my problem.   But today I talked to the maneger & he said it could be the overload burden on the network. and he promised to do something about it.  Any way I'll keep annoying them until they fix it. I can't wait to get back to my faivorate program. Thank you all for your assistance |
