maybe i should ask for my money back and go back to ares.

no problem with firewalls there

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 04:11 AM

Ares must be a "leecher" program then. No wonder it's infamous for long queues for downloads.

The idea of forcing people to properly configure their firewalls is so they can share. Since that is what this is all about ... peer to peer. Gnutella is a "file sharing" network. If people weren't sharing then there'd be nothing to download.

If you have a problem with a firewall then it would mean people would mostly fail in their attempts to downld from you.

So why the firewall? Perhaps your router doesn't have good UPnP support & is unreliable in that mode. In which case port forwarding would normally be the best step. Port forwarding instructrions for Marconi can be found here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

You posted here, presumably looking for help, but you left very little in the way of details as the forum rules require; details such as these System details - help us to help you (click on link)

I presume you're using Windows XP so did you configure your XP firewall to allow LW full access? (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link). You mentioned penicillen, is that only an AV or is it also a firewall?

When you say connected via a hub, I presume you mean USB hub right?
Ethernet would be faster & more reliable.

I'd suggest you try the port forwarding. But before you do that, go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & change the listening port to 64049. Then restart LW. See if that makes a difference. If not, then try port forwarding from the link I gave above. Choose the one that looks the most similar to yours.

I've come across a couple of other users from S. Africa who had problems with their ISP secretly causing problems. I hope this is not the case for you.

thanx , i tried that port but top no avail
as regards the router. i am not sure. it is rather expensive for me, but if it is required i will have to think about.
btw i run thro ethernet on my windows xp.

what i cant understand is that it worked for about a week, then the firewall went up.
im not really a good prigrammer, or good on the pc, scared i will make a mess of it.
again thanx.

This 'might' be due to the ISP. They may have detected you using a p2p program & lots of bandwidth & have put something there to block it.

A couple that came to mind ... no I don't think there was any easy solution.

Why not try Phex to see if you have the same problems. It's another gnutella program. They also have their own section on these forums. Phex doesn't have many language options however.

yarddog December 1st, 2006 06:09 AM

they require a payment of about R300 or so to use that program

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 06:47 AM

Which program?

Phex is free.

yarddog December 1st, 2006 08:28 AM

sorry , i meant the forward port router programme.
ive just sent an e mail to my asdl provider asking them if they can resolve it.

hopeing they can
thanx for ur help anyway. it is much appreciated.

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 08:54 AM

The program should be built into the device. All devices have certain firmware that they operate by. This is accessible to the user either via command line or user interface.

Try it. Open internet explorer. Type in 10.0.0.2 into the address bar.

If you see a box appear, then either (a) By default the username is admin, and the password is epicrouter. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.
OR (b) By default the username is user, and the password is password. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Tell me if you can log into your device.

yarddog December 1st, 2006 02:13 PM

yes i can

yarddog December 1st, 2006 02:16 PM

btw
what else is strange is that it shows connections to ultrapeers
and i can do a search , np.
just doesnt d/l

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 11:02 PM

Just in case, check Cant download at all - nothing happens when I click download

So then you can port forward if needed. Whoever told you to buy a port forward program didn't know what they were talking about. Unless that was the cost of personal support to do it for you.
