One way connection

Recently a friend and I have tried using LW direct connection feature. Here is the problem:

He can view and download my files, but I can only view his files. When I try to download files from him, I get "waiting on busy hosts". Both of us have a cable internet connection running on Windows XP. Any help would be greatly apprciated. Thanks

Sounds like your friends end, His firewall is not configured correctly
to allow LimeWire full access.

Ps. Whats his setup

ihbhogger December 1st, 2006 06:54 AM

He has his firewall off. He uses Mcafee firewall and anti-virus.

mickjapa108 December 1st, 2006 07:29 AM

Do you mean he has his windows firewall Off, and is using Mcafee firewall
at the moment.
Or Both off

Ps.Your friend may have his uploads set to high all so.
Dose ither of you see a brick wall in front of the globe at the bottom left corner of L/W

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 07:35 AM

Do either of you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Sample image

And can you both see your own ip address listed above the direct connect search box? Whoever can't see it has a firewall problem.

ihbhogger December 1st, 2006 07:36 AM

We have tried it with McAfee on and off. Windows firewall is off. Also have tried it with no firewall or anti-virus apps running. I see the brick wall. I run Norton anti-virus with Black Ice.

mickjapa108 December 1st, 2006 08:12 AM

Black Ice ?
You must give full access to LimeWire in norton, Opions/Norton Anti Virus/
Internet Worm Protection/Program Control, Give LimeWire Full access
Just shout if that dont fix it.
Peace.

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 08:13 AM

I don't know what black ice is. :D Then it may be your connection device. What brand & model of modem/router do you have?

ihbhogger December 1st, 2006 08:47 AM

Black Ice is by Internet Security Systems. I checked Norton and changed it to allow 2-way traffic from LW. Thanks for the info, we will try it later.

P.S. I have no problem downloading files from a search or browsing and downloading from a host that is downloading from me.

mickjapa108 December 1st, 2006 09:03 AM

Ok
Good Luck, Shout if it did'nt work.
Peace.

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2006 09:23 AM

The reason I was asking about your connection device is because some/many people don't realise that most routers & some high speed modems have internal NAT firewalls. So if it supports UPnP then enable it within the device's interface GUI after telnetting. Or else forward a port as in port forwarding. :)

ihbhogger December 1st, 2006 11:58 AM

Well we just tried, he is able to download from me, but I can not download from him. I get a message "waiting on busy hosts".

wondering why December 1st, 2006 01:04 PM

Try right clicking on the file you are trying to get and select find more sources....:rolleyes_2:

mickjapa108 December 2nd, 2006 02:48 AM

ihbhogger.
Ok tell your friend, In limeWire clik on the Moniter tab, How many uploads do
you see. [Make sure L/W is running for at least 20 mins before checking]
to give it time to settle in.
I only have 30 KBs up using cable, so I put my settings at, Total ups 5 & per person 3.
If your friend sets them to high for his connection Big tailbacks happen and L/W will clog.
When you reset norton, did the wall in front of the globe go away ?
Are you or your friend connecting through a router.Like Lotr says We must have this info. or it could take ages to keep gesing.
The more info we have, the easer it is to solve your problem.
Oh! Who is your ISP provider ?
Look back over thread, answer all the ?s If its possable we will fix it.
Peace.

mickjapa108;

Here is some more info:
My system: I am using Norton Anti-Virus software and yes I see the globe.
I am not using a router. My cable modem is mfg. by Ambit and my service is thru Comcast.
I have Norton worm protection configured to permit LW direction in/out any computer/adapter/protocol.

My friends system, MacAfee firewall, he sees the globe when the software is on. I have tried downloading from him with and without the MacAfee active, same results. He uses a router, but we took that out of the picture. (I couldn't even see his files with the router) for now the router is NOT being used. His service supplier is Comcast with a Motorola Surfboard modem.
Both of use are not using Window's firewall.

mickjapa108 December 3rd, 2006 01:45 AM

Sorry about the time delay, Im from England. From what you say its looking
like your ISP is shaping your P2P usage.:yikes: If you have differant ISP's give both of them a ring and ask directly. Let us know the resolt, a list is being made of good & bad ISP's to help others.
Good Luck:Smilywais:
Peace.

ihbhogger December 20th, 2006 10:09 AM

Both of us have Comcast as a service provider.
