Constant wireless router losing connection Can someone offer some advise, I have a netgear wgt624 wireless router with multiple home computers on it. I have the pro 4.13 beta. My problem is the connection may last for 15-30 minutes with downloading of 300kbs. It suddenly disconnects and I cant repair the wireless device. I have to reset the router? I have no WEP or WAP enabled and I read somewhere a peer to peer needs to be authenticated. I have a new HP media center? I also tried port forwarding but I get a 11643 port listed under limewire not a 6346 port as I read on other posts. Any suggestions??????? TQ |
Sounds to me like you didn't do port forward process properly, at least for LW. There's 3 main steps: setting up static ip, forward a port, & settings within LW. 1. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) 2. Go here & find your model & be sure you follow the directions carefully: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (& netgear's instructions on pf here but check the other 1st to be sure of the correct settings for LW.) 3. (a) Go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Speed & tick disable Ultrapeer Cap. & press apply button. (b) Set both uplds & downlds to autoclear. (c) Reduce uplds to about 70-80% or more. Reduce downlds to 80 or 90%. (d) Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time. (e) After opening LW wait 5 to 10 mins or longer before using. Let it settle down 1st. (f) Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 4. Get this patch: http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools 5. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your router: http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp BTW you must do the port forwarding "from" the computer you're running LW on!!! If you're running more than one LW, then you need to do a separate port forward for & "from" each of those computers & using a different port (not the same port as any of the others!) Running more than one LW at a time however may cause some problems. One may take most of the bandwidth, & if used with resuming too many files may overcome your router. |
1 more question Lord I did everything you indicated up to the port forwarding. When I did this my router indicated the IP was already being used and cant port forward? When I checked the advanced option in limewire,Network interface, it states check box for network interface and below that states NVIDIA nforce networking controller packet scheduling miniport below that is my wireless usb netgear wg121 adapter- packet scheduling miniport round box to check with 192.168.1.126 (my ip for that computer) So wher does that play when trying to port forward and my router states 192.168.126 is already being used? What is this tab really mean and what should be checked? 1 other question, why is my firewall on and listed as limewire as an exception but when connected I see no wall in the globe as limewire states there should be when lw is connected? Again thanks, everything else I followed and it is up and running. Your explanation was very understandable and truly appreciated.....TQ |
I don't believe you need to be changing anything in the LW advanced>Network interface option. You may have already done a port forwarding previously for that particular computer. I guess you could delete that setting & redo. Keep in mind also, if you forward a port, only do it for one computer. Any other computer on the network that's port forwarded will need a different port number. eg: port forward 6346 for one computer, 64049 for another, etc. But if you're using more than one LW or p2p program at the same time, this might be what's over-whelming the router. netgear do support UPnP so port forwarding might not be necessary. If you're connected & don't see a brick wall then perhaps either UPnP or port forwarding you did was fine. To enable UPnP on your device, see the UPnP section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link). PF or UPnP, whichever one works for you & works reliably for you. BTW have you checked to see if there's any firmware update for your netgear? |
Thanks Lord, Thanks man....everything is running well with only a slight drop here and there. Getting 600-800 kbs when downloading 4-6 items. Thanks again!! I switched to a wpn 824 mimo router and it is working excellent with all your tips.... TQ |
