No more connection Hi, I have been using Limewire for a long time, but since I installed AVG Internet Security it does not work anymore. I uninstalled this program but I still cannot get connected. I've been trying everything on this forum, nothing helps... Can you plese help me out? :wai: My system details: 1. OS version? Windows XP Home SP2 2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall 3. How much ram? 512 mb 4. Hard Disk space available? 27 gb 5. Connection type? Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.C) 7. Where are you trying to connect from ? Home (local network) 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 4.9.23 Pro, Java.1.5 9. Who is your ISP provider? Telenet (Belgium) 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "Your test worked!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? Nope. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. It is a new problem. I already use it for more than a year. I used to have comparable connection problems with Kazaa Lite before having formatted my pc. (Now I only use Limewire.) 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes. |
Probably the reason you couldn't connect was having 2 firewalls. And question was also whether you configured to them to allow LW full access. So for Windows XP did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) If no change in connection, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) |
As far as I know I only use the Windows Firewall, whenm I turn this one off, I sometimes get connected. I'll try out what you've said. Thank you! |
