Connection Problem

I don't know why I can't connect. I don't have any firewalls on that I know of....and heres the other info asked for:

1. OS version? Windows XP
2. What firewalls you have? windows (made sure that limewire is an exception and it is) but dont know of any others on the computer
3. How much ram? don't know
4. Hard Disk space available? don't know but enough
5. Connection type? cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem Best Data CMX110 and a D-link Dl-524
7. Where are you trying to connect from? home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.10.5 and Java 1.4.2
9. Who is your ISP provider? Suddenlink
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it won't load at all
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Yes with one other computer using the d-link and that computer will work with limewire or other downloading programs....Kazaa won't work either on my computer.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used limewire before but not recently.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes but dont know of a firewall!

Any help as to what is blocking me would be appreciated... Once I figure out what is blocking limewire it will be easier to search forums or change settings in order to fix the problem.
-Thanks!

Try Port Forwarding your Router...These are the instructions for Dlink DI-524..
Let us know if that has fixed your problem....:rolleyes_2:

Have same problem, except my isp is telewest.
Modem is a webstar that is supplied by telewest(broadband).
Have Bitdefender internet security, and have disabled firewall and still no luck. Unless I am unaware, I am not sharing my pc.

The error message I get on start up is:
Limewire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections.

Please, any help welcome and I am sorry if you have gone through this before.

Thanks

Re:

I tried using the static ip address and set up all the stuff for the D-Link as the link you gave told me too but it still is blocked. I have Windows firewall disabled but that doesn't work either. It has limewire as an exception anyway. I don't know of any other firewall that is enabled though.

Are you sure you followed all the instructions carefully...
Just check and see if you have the same number in the manual port forward box and the listening box, they need to match....

Make sure you also placed that same number into all the boxes that the port forward instructions asked you to...

You really need to give the modems make and model number, the info should be underneath it...:rolleyes_2:

brit10e December 28th, 2006 12:09 PM

Yes they do match..they are both 21188. And I followed all the steps exactly as it said to. I realized that on my sister's computer that shares a connection with this one, that her limewire works even though it shows a firewall in front of the world picture. However, all her bars are green and she is able to download.
Thanks wonderwhy for your help!

Even though she can still download, she more than likely can't share any of her files and she wouldn't be able to direct connect with a friend. Sorry if I go over this bit by bit, did your find you DNS server numbers alright when you where doing your static IP number...

Modem details are:

Make: Scientific Atlanta
Model: Series EPC2100

Hope this makes sense.

I'm having trouble locating port forwarding information on your modem ...
So I will give you the link to the Port Forwarding forums, they may be able to help you out with it...That's if it even has a NAT firewall...Sorry...:rolleyes_2:
